English Sparrows Last year there were about six pairs of English sparrows around the west side of the city, this year there are about fifty pairs, and an other year the pests will be redy to take the town. The Booth-Kelly Lumber Co. have again started their mill at Wendling. It is said they have spent over $40,000 in improvements making it one of the best in this section of the state. J. H. Chambers made a flying trip to Portland on business con nected with the Alca mill. The mill is again running but he cannot ship as the recent slide at that place tore up the track in bad shape. It is hoped to have it in shape soon to ship. There have been a lar2e uumber of lumber buyers and mill supply men here during the past week but the high water and severe weather drove them away. As soon as the spring trade opens up the mill men of this place will have all sorts and kinds of buyers and sellers to ex tend to them the "glad hand." There is a large amount of tim ber land changing hands in this eounty at the present time and it is to be hoped that it will result in more mills being built. Some, of course, is being held for specula tion, winch, to a certain extent is detrimt ntal to the interests of all but in time it will be Dut on the market in the shape of lumber, so that, looking ahead, the outlook for the general lumber market and increased business of the surround ing community is of the brightest. Mr. McCormick of the Curtin- Spur Lumber Co. ha9 returned after an absence of some time in San Francisco. It is reported that D. W. Hoffer is trying to dispose of the balance of his lumber interests at Divide and if successful will return to Texas. Henry Fischer of the Brown Lumber Co. left for Portland ou Saturday to be gone several days. 1 ae mm is not yet running but they have the pou l full of logs and when they do start will doubtless hum right along. Wm. Skidaiore, who is ruunine a sm all mill near Cuitin-Spur was in town lust week on business. He reports lots of orders and more in sight if cars could be hud for ship ments. It is reported that a company is beiug formed with a view of pur chasing the J. Ii. Kouse mill. If the deal is made it will be run mostly on ties and local orders The Bl ick Butte mine lequires an nually a large amount of lumber and other building iu the vicininy uf Loudon this spriug is expected, to bo brisk. The Truth Works Both Ways. The Bohamia Nut-eel of Cottaee Grove, ore of the brightest papers in the country, iu its ht issue pays the Nonpareil a neat little compliment, which we tlioronehlv appreciated. It refers to the Non pareil as a better newHpaper than most papers in towns many tiinea the size ol Drain, and says the bus iness men of this place should ap preciate what the paper is doing for the town by giving it their hearty support. Drain Nonpareil, J,.
