He says that had the wheat corner succeed ed he would have paid it all back and no one would have been the wiser. It was a careless writer who said, "The Chicago University is worth $10,000,000." What he should have said is, $10,000,000 has been put into the Chicsgo University." It is reported that the Mormon Missionaries are to "pursue their trade in Vermont." We will wager that the Vermont Yankee will get the best of the trade however. It would be well if Luther Bur bank would turn his attention from creating breeds of thornless black berry bushes and try to produce a breed of graftless politicians. The fact that Russia has a ship less navy is due to wireless tele graphy and a fearless opponent. The number that went to tho Lewis and Clark fair ou Sunday to be present Cottage Grove Day as arranged for by the Commissioners of the fair was not as great as it would have been at a later date, as many of the farmers could not leave their work at this season of the year. The determination of the city council to put the streets of the city into good condition for travel at any season of the year is commendable. Cottage Grove is well supplied with good dwellings, nice yards and lawns and with its thoroughfares im proved, it will prove attractive to the homeseekers who are constantly visiting us. The Promise of the New Day. Ealph Waldo Emerson. Finish every day and have with it. For manners and for living it is a sin to remember, have done what you could: done wise You some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in ; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is anew day; you shall begin it well and serenely, with to high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense. This day for all that is too good and fair. It is too dear, with all its hopes and oc cupations, to waste a moment the rotten yesterday. on Origin of the Tip. From the New York Tribune. The word "tip" originated in the old coffee houses of London. At the door was a brass box with a slit in it. Engraved upon it usual ly were the letter, 'T. I. 1'.," an abbreviation of the words, "To in sure promptness." Customers as they departed dropped coins in the box iot the waitere. HUGE TASK. . It was a huge task, to undertake the cure of such a bad case of kidney disease, as that of (,'. F. Collier, of Cherokee, la., but Electric Hitters did it. He writes: "My kidneys were so far gone, I could not sit on u chair without a cushion; and suffered from dreadful backache, headache and de pression. In Electric Litters, how ever, I found a cure, und by them was restored to perfect health. I rec ommend this great tonic medicine to all with weak kidneys, liver or stomach.
