The Klection on Monday passed
5i off very quietly in Cottage Grove.
! what little interest was shown was
3 1 over the office for Sheriff and the
s3 1 Local Option question.
s Is was apparent ttom tlie tirst
that all the efforts of the democrats
would be concentrated on their
nominee for Sheriff Kisks pepti
ze larity gained from n long residence
:5 in the County and his record since
:S i his appointment as Sheriff made
sS ' him a formidable candidate. This
"ZZ j together with the special effort
5i made for him all over the county,
1 elected him by a large majority.
:S It is probably Stiles rau as well as
' any one who might have been
nominated.
! The balance of the republican
ticket came out ahead.
Our candidate for Representative
'I, H. Bingham, may well leel
proud of the vote he received.
Local Option seems to have been
carried by a fair majority.

Good Results Obtained.
The results of the winter's work
in Bohemia have beeu very satis
factorv. As was suggested in the
NuEcet early last winter when the
snow compelled all out side work to
be suspended, it would cause those
who remained in the district to do
all their work under ground. This
was the case and we have yet to
learn of an instance where great
improvement was not the result
where any considerable work was
done. The Crystal Consolidated,
Vesuvius, Oregon Securities.River
side, Sunset, Oregon-Colorado,
Champion Basin, North Fairveiw
and several others are examples.
The season has just fairly opened
and many owners of properties are
beginning work on their properties.
This promises to be the best season
in the history of Bohemia.

George IS. Waggoner of the Ore
gon Blue River Mining Company,
was in Kugene yesterday looking
alter transportation of n to-stamp
null to the Badger mine, one or the
group in their valuable Blue River
property.
Mr. Waggoner is one of manv
mining men in Blue River district
who have unbounded faith in the
gteatnos of the future and who is
not ntraid to put money into devel
opmcut work and into stamp mills
by which to extract the precious
metal from the gold lined quartz of
that district.
White in the city Mr. Waggoner
presented n petition to a number of
business men, who did not hesitate
to sign. This petition asks the
county court to buy the private
roadway leading from Blue River
City up to the Lucky Boy mine and
held build a mile and half ot road
beyond toward the Badger and
several other valuable properties.

A NEW KIND OF 0E0L00IST.
An English professor of geology

from a man who was at the head of
a large commercial enterprise. He
wished to consult the proiessor

"But, mind you," said he, "I

to fill bis mind with fossils or stuff
about crystals. What I want him
to learn is how to find gold and
