Ye correspondent has been visiting some of tho milieu in this locality of lato and linds u general air of confidence and prosperity among tho prospectors of thia pait of the great lioiiemiu. Jas. Miller, of Cottage Grove, is doing his assess ment with flattering results. Bill lied ill!, and many others are here doing their work, and all feel as though Iiohcmiu. is taking on new life. Jas. Miller ha. it solid faff of ore in his tunnel about 1 feet wide, very high grade smelting ore. Wo kuw the .Jumbo owned by .lack Brumbaugh and D.ivu Lessue the other day . This led'u is some 80 feet in width, allowing coppur pyritoa, lead and galeuu. Thero isore enough in this mine alone and of suflicieut value to keep a. smelter running for lOyears to come. The .Lis. Ostrander and Geo. Brumlleld qhiiiiH were next gone over. Thia property lies about lj miles to the north of the Itidgo, and is another large body of line smelting ore, hoiiij 18 feet in width. . Tliu ore is almost a solid mass of metal, carrying gold, silver and lead. AVe next looked through the little mill put up last summer and which 'is at present hung up. It is to be hoped if ever this enterprise is again started they will put in some practical man in charge, for no one living can save fihe gold in such a trap iw this. No wonder, it failed. The Lossuo and Lurch mine was next , looked at. The face of their tunnel is in botnu 30 feet and their ledcu is a la rue' (to body of ore of good smelting value. .Tcnksaml Lockwood have u group of good claims jiwt east of the Ilidgo house, on the Annie trail. Their work for tho season is done. They have some fine free milling ore in this tunnel the general character is base. Tho formation throughout this entire part of camp is iimlisitu and granit of volcanic origin, , ith little or noshdes, showing the country to be in place. Water and timber ill bundani'o and with capital and practical men, this can be made second to nono n Bohemia. . Passing on over the ridge otic comes nearer to the main mining center. Corner stakes and blazes show the whole region to bo taken up. Shafts and prospect holes and tunnels on every side shows that the owners are in earnoft bout their mode of development. There are many line groups on down below ho Helena mill littlo known to the outside world. Notably among them are tho Belcher and Bjomer owned by Professor Day and Ben Pierson at present under going development and showing about 3 feet of line milling ore, assaying on an average, of $30 per ton. The Mayflower just belowithe- Belcher is operated by an ncorporated company under the management of Capt. Kly. This property is in line condition, showing high grade ore in all its workings, and ia some 300 feet in extent. Next is the Slipper, another incorporated company managed by Dr. Ogles by and M. O. Warner. At present there is a force of men blocking out ore for future purposes. Thompson and Goldniachcr are next, to the Slipper on the south, and 'are doing assessment work at present, beginning in a business like manner and gapi ng deptli at the rate of foot for foot. Next comes tho Itivcrside, showing large bodies ot fine smelting ore. Assays from this property show values from .f3 to $1,300 per ton. . Mineral King joins Jliversido on the south and is owned bv A. W. Ziuikor ind Andrew Land who arp at present engaged in tapping their ledge at still greaterdeptii. These enterprising gontlenien deserve success, which will surely crown their efforts. Tho writer was shown certificates of assays from rdsponsiblo assayers, ranging in values from $1(5 to $455 per ton. They havo suflicicnt oroiu sight and of high enough grade to put them abovo tho average man of- means if the great State of Oregon only had some mode of reduction whereby oro could bo mined and reduced like other states.
