Pursuant lo call ns published in the papers of last week's issue the citizens of Cottage Grove met at the city hall last Monday evening with the vi'-.w cf arranging for a Fourth of July celebration. Mr. Lurch called the meeting lo order, slated the object of the meet ing and moved that Mr. I,. F. Wooley be made chairman of the meeting. The motion was carried. On motion of Walker T. W. Jenkins was chosen as secretary Chaiunan Wooley then ap pointed a committee of three on general arrangements, consisting of Messrs. Lurch, Goodman and Walker. It wns the sense of the meeting that the appointing of all other committees necessary to carry the business of the committee on gen eral arrangements to a successful issue fall to the lot of the committee on general arrangements en 1 that it be their duty to sec that said other committees appointed by the committee on general arrange ments, shall do its part toward furthering the interests of a suc cessful celebration. , Upon motion Darwin Bristow was unanimously chosen as treas urer. This concluding all the business coming before the meeting at that time upon motion the meeting was adjourned to call of committee. NARROW KSCAl'K. Aitliur Van Schoiack had a nar row escape from death last Monday a mile and a half below the ware house. He was breaking 0 pony to drive, having a harness upon him and walking behind lliannimaj.' As he went to put the lines up on the hauies of the harness the pony became .scared and started to run. The lines caught Van Schoiack around the ankle and he was dragged over rocks and rough ground over 150 feet before he ex tracted himself. He was horribly bruised from head to foot and his lc't hand fcems to be paraliz"d. W. W. Mastersou was at the ware house and kindly consented to come to town for medicine for the unfortunate boy. While no bones are broken his recovery will be necessarily slow on account of the bruises. AN nNJOYAM.It OUTING Mr. and Mrs. Frank Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Boyd and Mr. and Mrs. J S. Benson spent Saturday and Sunday at the magnificent home of Uncle Johnny and Mrs. Currin and Mr. and Mrs Felix Currin, some four miles out in the country, and on their return were loud in their praise of the hos pitable treatment there received. The time was put in picking straw berries and wild pigeon shooting, and partaking of the delightful courtesies extended by their genial host and hostess and the pleasant old people. The home of the Currins is one of beauty, plenty and hospitality, not unlike some of those old southern homes, which are famous in that they always throw a halo of light, comfort and good will around those who happsn that way. HARD LUCK. Mrs. O. P. Adams, who has suffered much the last few years from paralysis of the left side, seems still to be the victim of bad luck. Some three weeks ago she had so much improved from her paralytic condition that she was enabled to walk about the yatd feeling more like her former self than for several years. One day she went out to the rear of the house where a pet deer had been tied and when she walked up to his dcership in his play he reared up and pushed Mrs. Adams over.
