CIIAKI.ICV COATHHIIOT. - Charles A. Coats, well kiown here, was shot near Riddle last Sun day, by Jackson Monroe formerly a partner with CoatH in placer property. It seems the two men riuarreled about possession of piop ci ty 011 Saturday before the nhool ing, Monroe claiming that Coats was trespassing upon his property. Coats claims that lie was not on Monroe's properly but was on his ovn property in which Win. Me Queen of this city is interested, Mr. Coats says that in the conver sation between himself and Monroe on Saturday, Monroe warned him off. On the following day (Sji'i day) he went upon the piopcrty after some specimens which he hud selected, in company with some other men, and while there was shot by someone in ambush alleged to be Monroe, who was secreted in some brush some yards away. The riile bullet struck Coats about eight inches below the heart from the front and passed out to the left of tne spine, inflicting a serious but not fatal wound. Monroe was nr rested and in a preliminary hearing at Riddle was placed under $250 bonds. Mr. Coats was brought to this city Wednesday morning, and although suffering severely from the wound is slowly improving, nit Ai'or.ooizi;i). The boy had a habit of answering "yessir" and going to sleep again. Recently he was particularly anxious to get the young man up for important work, and to make no mistake, called the boy, got the "yessir," then slid up stairs, turned the covers down and gave the person there a good spank ing. Y.) dairyman called at a drug store there for a loctor to come and see his child, then very sick with croup. Not nnding the doctor in, he left word for him to come at once on hi? -return. He also bought a- bottle of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy, which he hoped would give some relief until the doctor should arrive. In a few he returned, saying the doctor need not come, as the child was much better. The druggist, Mr. Otto Scholz, says the family has since recommended Chamber lain's Cough Remedy to their neighbors and friends until he has a constant demand for it from that part of the country.
