    People hnvc serious apprehen
sio is of trusts nwl the consolida
tion of cnpif.il in every line of busi
ness, in general. A meat per cent
of this apprehension is without
foundation. Trusts fail, syndicates
jio to pieces, railroad corporations,
with all their millions are fre-
quentlv thrown into lhe hands of
receivers. Why? Because even
with united capital men- fail, and
their pet schemes and plans are not
a success. People who are so
abusive in the natter of trusts and
corporations should remember that
trusts and corporations make their
money when tliey uo make it, ex
actly the same way that smaller
concerns make their money by
direct, successful competition, to
the detriment of another like con
cern, the capital of which by failing
to down competition is submerged
into individual capital again. It
does not necessaraily mean that it
shall control all the trade in any
given line. Theie may be others,
and w hen there are others, there is
competition. Competition is the
back bone of this or any other com
mercial country. This country
will never go to pieces, Bryan ora

During the winter of 1897 Mr. James
Iteetl, one of the leading citizens and
merchants of Clay, Clay Co., V. Va.,
struck hia leg. against 'a cake of ice in
such a manner us to bruise it severely.
It became very much swollen and
' pained him so badly that be could
not walk without tho aid of crutches.
He was treated by physicians, also
used several kinds of liniment and two
and a. half gallons of whisky in bathing
it but nothing gave any relief until he
began using Chamberlains Pain Balm.
This brought almost a complete cure in
a week's time and he believes that bail
lie not used this remedy his leg would
have had to be amputated. Pain Balm
is tineipialed for sprains, bruises and
