6A | DECEMBER 9, 2021 | COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL Arts & Culture Arts Sweet N’ Juicy brings ‘fruity funk’ to The Grove COURTESY PHOTO Sweet N’ Juicy is made up of a banana named Sweet (bass), a Pineapple named N’ (drums), and a straw- berry named Juicy (keyboard). This fruit can jam. Producing a seamless mixture of comedy and light-hearted “party” mu- sic, Sweet N’ Juicy is due to perform at Cottage Grove’s Axe and Fiddle on Dec. 18. The three-man (or fruit) bunch formed in 2017 with the intention of creating “songwriter-funk, peo- ple-pleasing music”. With their collaborations in the hundreds, they have backed Grammy Award winners, comedians, and local celebrities while play- ing host to a weekly variety show. Individually, members have played on Warped Tour, been featured in High Times Magazine, co-written music with Blondie, and have been session musi- cians on dozens of albums. They are currently working on what they consider their best music yet. Sweet N’ Juicy is made up of a banana named Sweet (bass), a Pineapple named N’ (drums), and a strawber- ry named Juicy (keyboard). Sweet co-wrote the song “Take Me in the Night ‘’ with Blondie, N’ is the King of the Pineapples, and Juicy has toured internationally. “They just want people to party and have a good time,” stated a band release to The Sentinel. Though Sweet N’ Juicy plays what they call “party” music, their on-stage ban- ter and whimsical, some- times irreverent, approach to songwriting and per- forming would be hard to categorize in just one word. In one show, they were compared to Vulfpeck and Flight of the Conchords. At other shows, they are routinely compared to the Talking Heads, George Clinton, and Frank Zappa. Sweet N’ Juicy is con- stantly touring. By year’s end, they will have per- formed over a hundred times in just 2021. In February of 2022, they are touring from Seattle to San Diego in a month-long West Coast tour, and have shows booked as far as au- tumn of next year. While they often play in Eugene, this is their first time playing Cottage Grove. “They are thrilled to be performing their fruity funk at the Axe and Fiddle,” stated the band’s release. The band will be per- forming Dec. 18 from 8:30 p.m. — 11:30 p.m. Dance shoes are recommended. For more band infor- mation, visit www.sweetn- juicymusic.com.
