COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL | SEPTEMBER 23, 2021 | 7A $21 million in FEMA funds LCC awarded CCAMPIS grant going toward wildfire repair EUGENE, Ore. — Lane Community College has been awarded a $114,016 CCAMPIS grant by the U.S. Department of Edu- cation. The Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) program provides grants to higher education institutions to support the participation of low-income parents in postsecondary education through the provision of campus-based childcare services. Grants may be used for before- and af- ter-school services. “Students who have ac- cess to quality childcare are more successful in completing their education goals,” said Cheryl Hen- derson, Child and Fami- ly Education Manager at LCC. “CCAMPIS funds allow student parents to focus on their education. We are proud and excited to receive the CCAMPIS grant to support eligible Lane student parents and their children.” Full or part-time stu- dents of LCC with chil- dren enrolled in the Lane Child and Family Center for a minimum of 20 hours per week, who are Pell Grant-eligible, may quali- fy for the grant. I will continue fight- ing to bring federal support that will help Oregon to re- build and to prevent future wildfire destruction.” The $1.13 million FEMA grant for Consumers Pow- er Inc. – which serves rural customers in Benton, Lin- coln, Lane, Linn, Polk and Marion counties – will be for repairs to electric sys- tem components as well as system hardware including poles and transformers. “Grants like this are es- sential to financing repairs to our transmission and distribution system after devastating events like the Holiday Farm Fire,” said Debi Wilson, General Manager at Lane Electric Co-op. “On behalf of our Cooperative’s 10,400 mem- bers, we thank Senators Wyden and Merkley for their diligent work to make a real difference in our community. Lane Electric is committed to rebuilding our community stronger than before and at no cost to our members.” contact the Center today for more information as space is limited. The grant covers up to 80 percent of childcare fees; students are responsible for the remaining balance. Additional financial re- sources are also available. The Lane Child and Family Center is a state li- censed preschool/childcare program serving families on LCC’s main campus. The program is one of three centers in Lane County accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and rated five stars by Oregon’s Quality Rating and Improvement System. The Center is a teacher preparation school and parent cooperative. Lane was one of the four Oregon institutions award- ed the CCAMPIS grant; others included Oregon State University, OSU-Cas- cades and Central Ore- gon Community College. Grants are made for four- year grant award cycles. One solution for oxygen at home, away, and for travel Introducing the INOGEN ONE – It’s oxygen therapy on your terms No more tanks to refi ll.
