Firefighters are working with Resource Advisors to prioritize locations for these activities. Personnel and equipment that are needed on other large fires will be demobilizing to as- sist in these other areas. There are still needs on the Gales Fire for consol- idating brush piles and hauling logs from con- structed control lines, and firefighters will stay vigilant in patrolling and mopping up established fire line. Be aware that equipment and personnel are sometimes moving at slower speeds on roadways. Evacuations: The Lane County Sheriff ’s Office has announced that all evacu- ation levels on the fire are lifted effective at noon on Tuesday (Sept. 21). Coordinated by Amtrak Police and Operation Life- saver Inc (OLI), Operation Clear Track aims to reduce the approximately 2,000 serious injuries and deaths each year in the U.S. around railroad tracks and trains. “Every three hours in the U.S., a person or vehicle is hit by a train,” said Opera- tion Lifesaver, Inc. Execu- tive Director Rachel Maleh. “While we have made strides in reducing deaths and injuries, the goal of Operation Clear Track and other Rail Safety Week ac- tivities is empowering indi- viduals and communities to be safe around tracks and raise rail safety awareness. We appreciate the ongoing safety partnership of the first responder communi- ty.” The event is held during the annual observance of Rail Safety Week, which this year is September 20- 26 in North America. Rain reduces fire danger level Following a bout of rain over the weekend, the local Fire Danger Level has been reduced to “low” by South Lane County Fire and Res- cue. Outdoor burning is still prohibited until the fire season is over. The following are guide- lines under the “low risk” designation: • Smoking allowed in designated locations, vehi- cles on improved roads and boats in the water • Campfires allowed in designated locations • Portable cooking stoves using liquified fuels are okay • No Fireworks • No exploding targets, tracer ammunition or sky lanterns • Electric fences must be UL approved • All vehicles must have a shovel and fire extinguisher or gallon of water.
