4B | MAY 27, 2021 | COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL OHA, OSAA release face covering requirements The Oregon School Ac- tivities Association (OSAA) received clarification May 19 from the Oregon Health Au- thority (OHA) and Oregon Department of Education (ODE) regarding face cover- ing requirements guidance as it pertains to outdoor/in- door school sports. Outdoor Sports: Students, staff, volunteers, and specta- tors are not required to wear face coverings at outdoor sports events. Until addi- tional updates are provided, all previous physical dis- tancing and capacity restric- tions still apply. Indoor Sports: Fully vacci- nated students, staff, volun- teers, and spectators are not required to wear face cover- ings at indoor sports events only when vaccination status is checked by the school in a manner described by OHA in guidance. Until addition- al updates are provided, all previous physical distancing and capacity restrictions still apply. These provisions are op- tional for the venue opera- tors. School districts, charter schools, and private schools may still choose to require face coverings at these events. Guidance from OHA on entertainment establish- ment capacity and physical distancing is currently under review and may be updated. Per the OHA, “fully vac- cinated” means an individ- ual has received both doses of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or one dose of a sin- gle-dose vaccine and at least 14 days have passed since the individual’s final dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Per the OHA, “proof of vaccination status” means documentation provided by a tribal, federal, state or lo- cal government, or a health care provider, that includes an individual’s name, date of birth, type of COVID-19 vaccination given, date or dates given, depending on whether it is a one-dose or two-dose vaccine, and the name/location of the health care provider or site where the vaccine was adminis- tered. Documentation may in- clude, but is not limited to, COVID-19 vaccination re- cord card, or a copy or digi- tal picture of the vaccination record card. The OSAA Executive Board also met last week in a work session to finalize deci- sions on Season 4 Culminat- ing Week events. The board spent signifi- cant time discussing Season 4 options for schools and culminating events. As in Seasons 2 and 3, member schools continue to face challenges, but many have found success in local/ regional competition mod- els that seek to maximize participation opportunities for all students within a pro- Boys in a short, frenetic six-week season, even such a lopsid- ed loss can bring improve- ment. “It’s about overcoming adversity,” said Hutchison. “We’re going to be put in uncomfortable positions; it’s about how you respond to it.” This week, the Lions be- gin the heart of their Sky- Em League schedule. They were scheduled to travel to Marshfield to take on the Pirates on Tuesday, then host Elmira at home Thursday before traveling to Junction City for a Sat- urday afternoon matchup with the Tigers. gram. The board continues to believe that providing local discretion for Culminating Week events allows individ- ual schools to focus on par- ticipation and the best de- cisions for their school and community. Thus, they took action to return the sixth and final week of Season 4 to member schools. Participation limitations were increased by the board to allow for additional con- tests throughout Season 4. Basketball receives four additional games; wrestling receives one additional date, two additional weigh-ins and five additional mat ap- pearances; and swimming receives two additional dates. The board is looking for- ward to the fall of 2021 and the return of OSAA State Championship events. 15% OFF Any service with coupon Schedule your appointment Today!
