The year that altered the course of history. I realized when I accepted this position, I had some big shoes to fi ll. Travis did a wonderful job bringing this community together and creating very special relationships with our business owners. Little did I know the extreme effect this year would have not only on our businesses but on our community. The January Breakfast Club was hosted by Mark Molina. The topic was “Leadership in hindsight – Looking back at what we’ve learned and fi nding confi dence moving forward’. Mark is a facilitator with great insight. Our meeting quickly turned to one of compassion with a realization of the importance of mental health. Its amazing the creativity and resilience our community and business owners have shown through 2020. The need within our community to interact on a personal level is incredible. We are all craving it. One member shared the constant need of a ‘Plan B’. While you certainly cannot predict what is around the corner, the importance of being fl exible and open to alternatives is crucial. This year has insisted on alternate thinking. Look at what you have done. What have you learned? How will this experience shape your future? I have found this era of mass information completely frustrating but must admit, without the use of technology I would have been lost. I have been lucky to have a solid Board of Directors who have been so supportive. I have called on the Chamber of Commerce Community for advice and had an abundance of support from the Cottage Grove community and our City Offi cials. For that I am thankful While 2020 was unexpected, we at the Chamber were able to make many necessary changes. 2020 brought: New CEO President New offi ce and visitors center New offi ce/membership manager Updated website Restructure of membership levels The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), in consultation with the Treasury Department, announced that the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) will re-open the week of January 11 for new borrowers and certain existing PPP borrowers. To promote access to capital, initially only community fi nancial institutions will be able to make First Draw PPP Loans on Monday, January 11, and Second Draw PPP Loans on Wednesday, January 13. The PPP will open to all participating lenders shortly thereafter. Updated PPP guidance outlining Program changes to enhance its effectiveness and accessibility was released on January 6 in accordance with the Economic Aid to Hard-Hit Small Businesses, Non-Profi ts, and Venues Act. sitting in her chair at Shampoo Dolls, Candace shared a piece of herself that I will never forget. “In the business industry you must project positivity and that’s what you will get back”. I think of this often both personally and professionally. She is an inspiration. Board Retirement Recognition: 2021 will be a time of change for the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce. I would like to thank the following board members for their support and creativity through the past year. Danny Solesbee brought humor and energy to the board. His forward thinking and no-nonsense attitude when it came to business propelled the Chamber to where p p Coordinator and now through the Chamber of Commerce. She has been my direct line to reality. I am a person of several great ideas (in my mind) and passion to take them all on at the same time. She grounded me and always made sure I didn’t take on too much. Ruth will continue with our Ambassador’s Committee. I am thankful for her knowledge This round of the PPP continues to prioritize millions of Americans employed by small businesses by authorizing up to $284 billion toward job retention and certain other expenses through March 31, 2021, and by allowing certain existing PPP borrowers to apply for a Second Draw PPP Loan. Judd Van Gorder has been a part of everything for as long as I’ve been in Key PPP updates include: PPP borrowers can set their PPP loan’s covered period to be any length between 8 and 24 weeks to best meet their business needs; PPP loans will cover additional expenses, including operations expenditures, property damage costs, supplier costs, and worker protection expenditures; The Program’s eligibility is expanded to include 501(c)(6) s, housing cooperatives, direct marketing organizations, among other types of organizations; we are today. There is far more that Judd has done with our community, I could write a page on him alone. Judd will continue to volunteer with the Visitor Center, we are so thankful for him. Certain existing PPP borrowers can request to modify their First Draw PPP Loan amount; and Certain existing PPP borrowers are now eligible to apply for a Second Draw PPP Loan. A borrower is generally eligible for a Second Draw PPP Loan if the borrower: Previously received a First Draw Businesses are open in Cottage Grove. They need you now more than ever.
