2A | OCT0BER 15, 2020 | COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL On The Record Douglas County Public Health declares local health emergency The Douglas County Board of Commissioners announced that Dr. Robert Dannenhoffer, the Douglas County Public Health Of- ficer has declared a Local Health Emergency follow- ing the recent wildfires. A local health emergency exists in Douglas County due to the hazardous waste and materials created by the Archie Creek Fire, and that such condition may be exacerbated by the ongoing fires and upcoming rainy season and will continue until the conclusion of this local health emergency. In connection with the foregoing declaration of local health emergency, the Douglas County Health Of- ficer orders that immediate action be taken to remove the hazardous waste from property sites within the Archie Creek Fire area that are toxic, flammable, corro- sive or reactive and create an imminent threat to pub- lic health and safety. A Local Health Emergen- cy was declared in Douglas County Oct. 5. Following the declara- tion, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners established a temporary Wildfire Household Haz- ardous Waste Removal webpage for residents af- fected by the recent wild- fires. Those affected can log onto the webpage to sign up for assistance with the removal of their wild- fire household hazardous waste, at no cost to them. The page includes a link to a form that must be completed in order to par- ticipate in the free wildfire household hazardous waste program. To participate in this pro- gram, residents must act by today, Oct. 15. To apply for the free household hazardous waste removal program, residents affected by the local wild- fires simply need to down- load, fill out and return the Right-of-Entry Permit Form by Oct. 15, to grant state contractors access to your property. Forms are available at the Douglas County Public Works Department, locat- ed at the Douglas Coun- ty Courthouse, 1036 SW Douglas Ave., Room 304, Roseburg, Ore. Public Works office hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Additionally, residents can pick up and drop off forms at the Glide Wildfire Donation Center located at the Old Glide Middle School at 301 Glide Loop Road, Glide, Ore., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Right of Entry (ROE) form is required to allow state contractors onto your private property to start the fire debris cleanup process. Completed ROE forms can be returned via email to dcrecovery@co.douglas. or.us or dropped off in per- son to the Douglas County Public Works Department, Room 304 at the Douglas County Courthouse. Public Works office hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Forms can be brought into the Public Works office until Oct. 15. As a reminder, Douglas County Transfer Stations and the Douglas County Landfill are not able to ac- cept any hazardous waste materials or fire debris un- less it comes from a prop- erty where the household hazardous waste (HHW) has been cleaned, and the property has been certified clean.
