COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL | OCTOBER 1, 2020 | 3A COURTESY PHOTO Dorena has acquired a fire engine for the community, which will be featured in a special community parade this Saturday between Cottage Grove and Disston. Dorena to celebrate new fire truck with parade Saturday There will be a Cottage Grove to Disston parade this Saturday, Oct. 3, fea- turing Doren’a new fire engine. The parade is sched- uled to start at 10 a.m., traveling a 36-mile route from Cottage Grove to Disston and back. Anyone with a classic vehicle or anything else of interest is welcome to be in the parade. Since this is a long dis- tance, everyone will be traveling at around 45 to 55 mph most of the way. Staging will take place at Brad’s Chevrolet, 2775 Row River Road in Cot- tage Grove. Participants can re- main in their vehicle if they wish. Remember so- cial distancing for those watching along the way as well. The parade should pass through Dorena at 10:15 a.m. and again at 10:35 a.m., looping back to Cottage Grove about 10:50 a.m. For more information, contact Dan Holt at 541- 946-1445. This is an informal pa- rade (anything in good taste), so registration is accepted but not neces- sary to participate. Cottage Grove Public Works awarded transportation grant The City of Cottage Grove Public Works and Development Depart- ment has been awarded a 2020 Transportation Growth Management Grant by the Oregon De- partment of Transporta- tion. The $200,000 grant is for the development of a comprehensive citywide “Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan,” designed to transform Cottage Grove’s existing outdated, vehicle-oriented trans- portation system into a robust, multi-modal system that emphasizes multi-modal connectiv- ity, safety, accessibility and community health. The plan will include: goals and objectives for the bike/pedestrian sys- tem; mapping of existing conditions; ranking of projects based on a GIS (Geographical Infor- mation System) scoring framework developed through community in- put; alternative scenar- io evaluation; preferred project list and imple- mentation plan, includ- ing funding mechanisms; and recommendations for local code amend- ments to meet identified goals in future develop- ment. Development of the plan will include the hir- ing of a consultant firm that will lead the com- munity through the pro- cess. A Stakeholder Adviso- ry Committee will also be formed and there will be many opportunities for community members to chime in on issues, priorities and proposed project ideas. The city plans to have a consultant chosen by spring of 2021. Adoption will occur in the fall of 2022. For more information on the grant or proposed plan, please contact City Planner Amanda Fergu- son at planner@cottage grove.org or call 541- 942-3340.
