2A | JULY 30, 2020 | COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL On The Record Lane County seeks to fill Health Advisory Committee position The Lane County Board of Commissioners is seek- ing applications from citi- zens interested in serving on the advisory committee listed below. The committee advises the Board of Commission- ers on a wide variety of top- ics and issues. Public Health Advisory Committee: Makes recommenda- tions to the Public Health Administrator and advises the Board of Health and the Board of Commissioners on matters of public health, planning, policy develop- ment, control measures, funding, public education and advocacy. It also acts in a community liaison ca- pacity to provide a link be- tween the community and the Public Health Division. Meeting schedule: Meetings are held the second Monday of the month from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Vacancies: • 1 position designated to be filled by an at-large com- munity member, “informed on and interested in public health matters”; • 1 vacancy designated to be filled by a person “li- censed by this state as [a] health care practitioner.” Term: Both vacancies are for a complete term of four years (commencing upon ap- pointment and ending on Aug. 31, 2024). Membership: Consists of 12 members with a broad public health interest and concern, not limited to single interests or issues. Committee represen- tation shall include geo- graphic, socioeconomic and professional interests. Membership shall in- clude: 5 persons “licensed by this state as health care practitioners” and 7 “per- sons who are informed on and interested in pub- lic health matters.” (ORS 431.477). Public members with di- verse backgrounds are pre- ferred; county employees are not eligible for mem- bership. The committee seeks to have membership that re- flects the diversity of Lane County, including but not limited to racial, ethnic, gender, age, socioeconomic and geographical diversity. We also strive to meet the goals set out by the Lane County Board of Commis- sioners to acknowledge and address the root causes of inequities in Lane Coun- ty services and outcomes, work with community members and staff to in- vent or find antiracist pol- icies that can eliminate the racial inequities that exist and use an antiracist and racial equity lens to assess current and future policies and programs. Application Deadline: Monday, Aug. 27, at 5 p.m. Applications are available on line at www.lanecounty. org/volunteer and in the Board of Commissioners’ Office located on the 2nd floor of the Public Service Building, 125 East Eighth Ave. in Eugene. Oregonians to continue receiving increased food benefits in August The Oregon Department of Human Services has re- ceived approval by the fed- eral Food and Nutrition Service to continue in Au- gust to provide increased food benefits and waive the interview requirement for new applicants — making it faster and easier for Orego- nians to access benefits. This will result in an additional $30 million to eligible Supplemental Nu- trition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients in Au- gust 2020. “As the pandemic con- tinues, access to food has worsened greatly,” said Self-Sufficiency Programs Deputy Director Claire Se- guin. “Providing another month of emergency as- sistance will help ease the threat of chronic hunger in Oregon.” SNAP households will automatically receive the additional allotment in the same way they receive their current benefits. For most customers this is an EBT card. The addi- tional benefit amount will be disbursed on a schedule to all eligible SNAP house- holds. No additional action is needed from Oregonians already enrolled in SNAP. The increase brings all households to the maxi- mum SNAP benefit. House- holds that already receive the maximum benefit will not receive any additional benefits. This allotment will not permanently change a household’s monthly bene- fit amount. It is a temporary supplement to help during the current health crisis. The Department of Hu- man Services will not be sending individual notices to households about the emergency allotments. In addition, Oregon re- ceived approval to continue to waive the requirement to complete an interview for new SNAP applicants. This change will allow us to process applications faster and better serve those Or- egonians hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff will still reach out to new applicants to offer ad- ditional resources, explain requirements and answer questions. Learn how to apply for SNAP and other bene- fits online or by phone at https://www.oregon.gov/ DHS/COVID-19/Pages/ Home.aspx. SNAP customers can contact their local SSP or AAA office for more infor- mation.
