COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL Season’s (good health) greetings | MAY 7, 2020 | 3A Climate Action Cottage Grove continues climate education presentations Friday In March, with grow- ing concern over the risk of COVID-19 infection posed by public gather- ings, the organizers of the Climate Action Town Hall decided to postpone the event as well as a planned series of follow-up events and work sessions until the danger to the public had passed. However, even during an ongoing pandemic, Climate Action Cottage Grove believes finding solutions to the environ- mental crisis facing the planet and its impacts on the local community is still essential. Utilizing the virtu- al meeting technology of Zoom, the group will present the first in a se- ries of educational talks on “climate collapse” this Friday, May 8, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. “Climate Change Here, There, and Everywhere: Understanding the Sci- ence to Create A Regen- erative Future for All,” with presenter Tao Orion, will provide an overview of the science of climate change, looking at how humanity has impacted the environment and how that information can be used to chart a course to- wards a just and regenera- tive future for human and non-human communities in this region and beyond. Orion is the co-owner of Resilience Permacul- ture Design, LLC, a firm specializing in holistic farm, forest, water man- agement and restoration planning. She is the au- thor of “Beyond the War on Invasive Species: A Permaculture Approach to Ecosystem Restoration” (2015). She holds a degree in agroecology and sustain- able agriculture from UC Santa Cruz, and grows fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, animals and soil on her southern Willamette Valley homestead, Viridi- tas Farm. Orion volunteers with the Cottage Grove Cli- mate Action Group, the Oregon Climate and Ag- riculture Network, and serves on the Board of Di- rectors of Aprovecho and the Cerro Gordo Land Conservancy. Information on how to attend the Zoom pre- sentation can be found in the event notice on Climate Action Cottage Grove’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ Climate-Action-Cottage- Grove-113466063428924.
