COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL | APRIL 2, 2020 | 9A Hult Center hosting ‘Stay Home Talent Show’ The Hult Center for the Performing Arts is seek- ing submissions for the first (and hopefully last) “Stay Home Talent Show” and are encouraging all performers including mu- sicians, actors, singers, dancers, comedians and more to submit a video no longer than three minutes for consideration. Finalists will then be announced on April 13, followed by a People’s Choice run-off. Prizes will be awarded to finalists and the People’s Choice win- ner. This contest is open to all and we encourage artists both fresh and seasoned to get involved to help bring communities toget her through performance art during such isolated times. There are no age restric- tions, but participants un- der 13-years of age must have permission from guardians to participate. The Hult Center is en- couraging any performers who have been affected by the recent event ban to participate so the arts community can celebrate their hard work and talent. The center is also en- couraging participants to get creative and find ways to collaborate while maintaining all CDC safe distancing protocols. That said, this is the arts so extra points will be awarded for creativity, flair and style. Rules: • Clips can be submit- ted for consideration on Hult Center social media pages by including the hashtag #HultTalentShow between now and April 10 at https://www.hultcenter. org/stayhometalentshow. htm. • Clips must be no lon- ger than three minutes in length. Use of copyrighted or protected materials is prohibited, so no lip sync- ing over other artists work allowed. Judging: • Submissions will be re- viewed by a panel of local judges including media, local producing compa- nies as well as other local performers. Judges will review sub- missions and, on April 13, will announce the finalists who will then have their content shared for a Peo- ple’s Choice finale with voting. This calls for a shift from providing supplementary education to a formidable effort to provide Distance Learning for All.” SLSD staff thus began work on Tues., Mar. 31 co- ordinating a plan to offer continued learning for all students in spite of local schools shuttering their doors. “On April 13, your stu- dent(s) will receive learn- ing in a new way,” Curtis wrote. “We are excited about the possibilities that will emerge as staff engage in professional develop- ment and learn how to de- sign and deliver Distance Learning for every stu- dent.” Despite the turmoil and in the face of nationwide business and school clo- sures, Curtis began the letter by reiterating SLSD’s commitment to maintain- ing communication with all students to ensure their continued education. “Please know that in the last two weeks, our staff has been planning for a reconnection with our students,” Curtis wrote. “Yesterday, our staff re- turned to work with a goal to reach every student and family by phone.
