Commissioner Buch will serve as chair in 2020 and Commissioner Berney will serve as vice chair. “It is an honor to serve as chair of the Board of Coun- ty Commissioners,” said Chair Heather Buch. “We have so many important tasks ahead of us in 2020: a Climate Action Plan, in- creasing housing and creat- ing opportunities for rural residents to thrive. Cottage Theatre opens 2020 season with ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ Cottage Theatre kicks off its 38th season with a tale of merry mayhem and murderous aunts. Joseph Kesselring’s clas- sic play “Arsenic and Old Lace” opens the theatre’s 2020 season with a three weekend run beginning Jan. 31. Abby and Martha Brewster are charming spinster sisters who lov- ingly care for their eccen- tric nephew Teddy, who believes himself to be President Theodore Roo- sevelt. The sisters give gener- ously to local causes, and serve homemade biscuits and jam whenever Rever- end Harper comes to tea. So their nephew Mor- timer is flabbergasted to discover that the cellar is filled with a dozen de- ceased gentlemen who “benefitted” from his aunts’ peculiar brand of end-of-life charity. “Arsenic and Old Lace” premiered in 1939 and still ranks among the best-selling Broadway plays of all time. Cottage Theatre’s pro- duction of Arsenic and Old Lace is directed by Keith Kessler, with set design by Tony Rust, cos- tume design by Rhonda Turnquist and lighting design by Amanda Fer- guson. Nikki Pagniano and Marcee Shriver Long lead the cast as Abby and Mar- tha Brewster, along with Kory Weimer, Dale Fly- nn and Earl Ruttencutter as their three Brewster nephews. Rounding out the en- semble are Josh Coon, Dylan Skye Kennedy, John Vaughan Lemhouse, Blake Nelson, Garrhett Nelson, James Scoggins and Ashlee Winkler. Arsenic and Old Lace runs for three weekends at Cottage Theatre from Jan. 31 through Feb. 16. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Sat- urday evenings at 8 p.m., and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.cottag- etheatre.org, by phone at 541- 942-8001, or in person at the Cottage Theatre Box Office, 700 Village Drive, Cottage Grove. Founded in 1982 in Cottage Grove, Cottage Theatre presents a year- round season of plays and musicals featuring the finest Lane County tal- ent. Its 38th season also includes “Mamma Mia,” “Seeking Red” (West Coast Premiere), “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and “Elf: the Musical.” Deadline extended for budget and audit committee recruitments Currently there are three positions vacant on the City of Cottage Grove’s budget commit- tee. The City Council in- vites registered voters who reside within the city limits to apply for participation on the city’s budget committee. The budget committee generally meets twice in the spring of each year to consider the budget pro- posed by the city manag- er for the following fiscal year. The committee makes any changes they feel are needed and then approves the budget and forwards it to the City Council. The audit committee meets on a very limited basis to review the city’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, or in other words, the annual audit statements pre- pared by an outside au- diting firm. The committee, after reviewing the annual au- dit document with the auditors, recommends action to the City Coun- cil regarding the audit. The audit committee is comprised of two city councilors and three cit- izens. Presently, there are two vacant citizen mem- ber positions. Applications will be received through Fri- day, Jan. 17, at 5:00 p.m. A subcommittee of the city council has been appointed to review the applications and make recommendations for appointments to the committees.
