City workers flushed the water distribution system at the corner of S. 14 Street and E. Quincy Avenue
on Oct. 24 to clear build-up of mineral deposits in the piping. Minerals like iron and manganese natu-
rally accumulate in the system and, though still safe to drink, can cause a yellow tint to appear in res-
idents’ tap water. The city will conduct flushes on more than 400 hydrants through the city, a process
that is expected to take about three weeks from Nov. 4 to 25. Residents will receive notices on their
water bills when flushes are coming to their neighborhood.

An attempted robbery
on Oct. 24 near midnight
at Lucky 7’s, a convenience
store in Cottage Grove,
was deterred by employee

A video, caught by store

from behind the counter
when Scott caught one per-
petrator by surprise and
single-handedly restrained
another by the hair.
After a vicious struggle,
the theives recoiled and es-

Later, around 1 a.m.,
Scott decided to talk to
police about the incident
outside his home on his
