2A | WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21, 2019 | COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL On The Record POLICE LOG Aug. 2 A subject was placed under arrest for assault in the fourth degree on Lord Ave. Aug. 3 Animal abuse was reported on Gateway Blvd. when a dog was found locked inside a car reaching 110 degrees without food or water. The dog was removed from the vehicle. Aug. 5 Bicycle theft was re- ported on S. R Street. Aug. 6 Identify theft was reported when an un- known person posed as a Social Security official and convinced the vic- tim to provide the sub- ject with a prepaid mon- ey card at a $380 value. Aug. 12 A subject was arrested on Hwy 99 on an out- standing warrant and was found to be carrying methamphetamine and heroin upon search. Aug. 13 A Derringer 22 Mag- num pistol said to be worth about $150 was reported stolen on Eighth Street. Rescue for a house fire on Seventh Street. Aug. 14 Two male dogs at large were recovered in the area of Gateway Blvd., one black lab and one black Chihuahua. Officers responded to an agency assist of South Lane County Fire and on Benjamin Ave. The subject was also charged with resisting arrest. Approximately $500 in damage was caused when someone drove through Kerns Cabinets & Construction’s back fence. Aug. 19 A DUII was issued Roseburg VA to partner with local mental health experts at summit The Roseburg VA Health Care System (RVAHCS) is planning to partner with local mental health pro- fessionals to host this year’s Mental Health Summit, Aug. 30, in Eugene. The planned event is a chance for Veterans Health Administra- tion providers to part- ner with community mental health experts, agencies, nonprofit or- Phone service outage impacting 9-1-1 service in rural areas Another telephone ser- vice outage is this time affecting customers in the Yoncalla, Drain, Elkton, Scottsburg and Ash Val- ley areas. The outage may prevent residents in those areas from dialing 9-1-1 from their landline tele- phones. The telephone ser- vice providers affected by the outage, CenturyLink and Cascade Utilities, are currently investigating the cause of the outage. There is no estimated time of re- pair. Residents who are af- fected may be able to dial 9-1-1 from a cellular device in the event of an emer- gency. The Drain, Elkton and Scottsburg fire depart- ments are also staffed with personnel while the issue is being resolved. Residents wishing to check on the status of the telephone service should contact their telephone service provider. He was born in Eugene, OR to par- ents Earl and Nellie (Vaughan) Gowing on April 6, 1935. Marvin served in the Army National Guard and worked for 39 years for Weyerhaeuser, retiring in 1997. He loved fi sh- ing, training horses, hunting and hot rod cars. Marvin was a member of the Calvary Bap- tist Church and married Marie Yearous in Cottage Grove on July 1, 1956. He is survived by his loving wife, Marie; daugh- ter Kelly Daniels (Rick); son Jeff Gowing (Celia); sisters Nina Aubrey, Maxine Reed, Wilma Ryder; brother Mel- vin Gowing; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 24 at 1:00 pm at the Calvary Bap- tist Church, 77873 S. 6th Str., Cottage Grove.
