PHOTO C/O JRP RACE PHOTOS Oregon Sports Hall of Fame announces 2019 Class of Inductees The Oregon Sports Hall of Fame & Museum has announced its 2019 class of inductees. According to Mike Rose, induction cer- emony chairman, the Hall of Fame will induct six new members to join over 390 prior inductees. The presentations will be made at the Multnomah Athletic Club, Tuesday, September 24. This year’s class in- cludes Kenny Moore, U of O distance runner; Molly McConnell, boxing; Ray Bloom, OSU basketball; Mark Radford, OSU bas- ketball; Dr. Bob Gill, spe- cial contribution to sports; and the 1975 Portland Timbers team. This year’s event will mark the debut of Jordan Kent as master of ceremo- nies, following Bill Schone- ly’s retirement last year. Each year the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame helps preserve Oregon’s rich sports heritage through its recognition of outstanding Oregon athletes and spe- cial contributors to sport. This year’s student ath- letes are: Zach Folsom, Sheldon HS; Jack Folsom, Sheldon HS; Martin Here- dia, Hermiston HS; Brin- ley O’Neill, North Med- ford HS; Veronica Alvarez Frias, Riverside HS Board- man; and Paige Baker, South Eugene HS. The event will be held once again at the Mult- nomah Athletic Club, with a reception starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and program at 7 p.m. Vet- eran sportscaster Jordan Kent will emcee the cer- emony. Third place went to Adam Applebee of Eugene, with rookie Dar- ron Clark,from Macleay, rounding up the finishing order in fourth. Lastly, in the Hornets, Eric Ashley was quite the dominant force. Mike Wheeler of Florence, led early but lost the position to Ashley on lap three. The Jasper driver, racing for car owner Randy Kuhl, per- formed a clean sweep after setting fast time and find- ing success in both the tro- phy dash and the heat race. It is the second feature win of the season for Ashley. Eugene’s Brad Moffett was second but unfortu- nately was disqualified during the post-race tech- nical inspection. That gave the runner-up position to Barry Cannon of Dexter, with third being posted by Joel Hazen from Eugene. Mike Wheeler ended his night in fourth followed by Banks teenager Victoria Chandler. Cottage Grove Speedway returns to racing this Fri- day, August 2, and Satur- day, August 3 for the Sum- mer Thunder Sprint Series. The Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds will be on the card for both nights. Hopkins was the wag- on master of the caravan for the first four trips past the flag stand until losing the lead on lap five to Matt Sanders. Sanders, from the southwest coastal city of Brookings, was in the mid- dle of a tough fight with two other cars in the last few laps. Sanders managed to best the rest of the field to collect his third win at the quarter-mile this sea- son. Matt Sanders’ broth- er, Isaac, was a very close runner up while Jorddon Braaten, of Central Point, was third. Crossing the stripe in fourth would be Springfield’s Shawn Hand with Jordan Henry, from Roseburg, completing the top five, in fifth. David Schmidt took care of business in the Street Stock ranks.
