2A | WEDNESDAY, JULY 10, 2019 | COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL On The Record Smokey Bear license plates to be available beginning Aug. 1 SALEM — The Keep Oregon Green Association Smokey Bear vehicle li- cense plate will be available for Oregon passenger vehi- cles starting Aug. 1. The plate is only for pas- senger vehicles titled and registered in Oregon. The DMV cannot accept or process applications re- ceived before Aug. 1. In addition to regular ti- tle, registration and plate manufacturing fees, the Smokey Bear plate has a $40 surcharge due when you first order the plate and at each registration renew- al. The surcharge is the same amount for four-year or two-year registration pe- riods. Customers who pur- chased a prepaid voucher may submit that with their application in lieu of the surcharge. The voucher may only be used once. The Keep Oregon Green Association was required to sell at least 3,000 vouch- ers before DMV could start implementation of the Smokey Bear license plate. Surcharge funds will go to the Keep Oregon Green Association. For more information on the association, visit www. keeporegongreen.org. Custom (vanity) and Amateur Radio Operator (HAM radio) versions will be available on the Smokey Bear plate. The DMV cannot reserve s p e c i f i c nu mb e r- l e tte r configurations for license plates. Also, the DMV does not sell “sample” versions of license plates. People can apply for the plates by mail, at a DMV field offices, online or through licensed vehicle dealers when they purchase a car. Customers cannot apply for a Smokey Bear plate on- line if they are submitting a pre-paid voucher. Custom- ers cannot replace vehicle plates through DEQ emis- sions testing stations (emis- sions tests are required only in parts of the Portland and Medford metropolitan ar- eas). The cost of a set of plates depends upon when and how a vehicle owner applies for a new set. • A driver was taken into custody on Anthony Ave. for driving under the in- fluence of intoxicants and reckless driving. Rickey was born April 6, 1958 in Cottage Grove, Ore- gon. Rickey attended Cottage Grove High School Class 1977. Rickey enjoyed family, Out- doors, fi shing, hunting, camp- ing, the ocean, and exploring new places. Rickey worked in the woods as a logger & Heavy equipment operator. Preceded in Death by son Shawn Ormsbee and parents Richard & Martha Ormsbee. Maryn I. Gary Maryn I. Gary of Cottage Grove died on June 28, 2019 of complications from a stroke. She was born March 1, 1938 in Minneapolis, MN to Frederick P. and Emma (Hoff) Roessel. She graduated from St. Louis Park High School in 1956 and attended the Uni- versity of Minnesota for two years earning an AA degree. She married James. F. Man- ning who was in the military and moved to Eugene. He was a popular substitute teacher at Cottage Grove High School for over twenty years. Cliff ord Leo Willis of Junc- tion City, OR, passed away June 15, 2019 by a Brain Injury from a fall. Cliff ord was born July 24, 1939 to Anton and Sadie Willis (Allen) in Cottage Grove, OR. He graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1957. Cliff ord married Madeline on June 20, 1981. He spent 3 years in the Army and 4 years in the Reserves.
