Nine- teen administrators and we had three folks leave in the same year. Again, we hate to see anybody go but again, that’s not that many. Three of 19 isn’t huge,” said McCasline. “It is huge in that you have to replace them.” composite to create con- cepts she envisions; The Crafty Mercantile, show- ing Whimsical Gem- stone’s one-of-a-kind jewelry designed by Fyo- na Rose; Bookmine, with Ken Bachelder, author of “Wolf, Witch, Warrior,” the second book in his series, “The Wish and Waterfall.” Music will be provided by Andrew Gotlieb; Bank Building, showcasing Chalice Sav- age, Snap Savage Pho- tography; Ayslinn Black- stone, photography. PeaceHealth Cottage Grove Community Medical Center was recently was recognized na- tionally as a finalist for the QUEST Award for High-Value Healthcare for 2019 at Premier’s an- nual Breakthroughs Conference and Exhibition on June 18 in Nashville. It is the fourth straight year Cottage Grove has received these honors from Premier. QUEST is a national quality improvement col- laborative of about 250 hospitals within Premier, Cottage Grove was one of 15 hospitals nation- wide — and the only one in Oregon — to be a finalist for the High-Value Healthcare Award, which recognizes top performance in any four of the five areas of patient care measured by the QUEST collaborative: Patient safety, effective care and coordination, patient and family ex- perience, prevention and treatment for leading causes of mortality and affordability. “This recognition speaks to our commitment to consistently deliver the best care experience to the patients we are privileged to serve,” said Tim Herrmann, Cottage Grove chief administrative officer. “We’re proud to be named a finalist of this QUEST Award as we continue on a path to improve patient outcomes and our community’s health.” Also, for the fifth straight year, Cottage Grove received a Premier Supply Chain Excellence Award for superior supply expense performance. It was one of 13 winners nationwide. Author Ken Bachelder to be featured at Bookmine Local author Ken Bachel- der will be holding a book signing at the Cottage Grove Bookmine this Friday, June 28, during the monthly Art Walk between 6 and 8 p.m. Bachelder’s first book, “The Wish and the Waterfall,” introduced Willoughby, a 14-year-old boy struggling with the loss of his father and being bullied. He takes a spell binding trip into an- other world of wonder, pain, magic and strength. Bachel- der utilizes his vast knowl- edge of the Oregon forests in his writings, leading readers to know the characters on a personal level. Bachelder’s second book, “Wolf, Witch, Warrior,” was published in the fall of 2018 The replacement process was in full effect last week as CGHS filled the top va- cancies at the school. At the June 17 SLSD school board meeting Matt My- ers, who was most recently at Churchill High School, was announced as the new assistant principal/athletic director. (For more on My- ers in the role of athletic di- rector, see B1.) Myers was one of 35 applicants for the position. Last Friday, SLSD an- nounced that Kevin Her- ington will be the new principal at CGHS. A press release from the district stated that Herington has eight years of experience as a building administrator and for the last three years has been the director of Career and Technical Edu- cation at the 4J School Dis- trict in Eugene. Herington was one of 18 applicants for the position of principal. The SLSD has not hired an assistant superinten- dent. The other recent moves across the district have in- cluded the movement of principals and assistant principals. The adminis- Ken Bachelder and he is currently work- ing on the third instalment. Come meet the author, have him sign a copy of his book and learn more about the creative development of a story in the making for 40 years. Bachelder will be featured for a book talk through the Cottage Grove Library in the near future and is available to speak to interested book clubs. trative musical chairs start- ed after Lincoln’s principal Jeremy Smith took the po- sition of high school suc- cess coordinator at CGHS. This move put Bill Bech- en, who has been the prin- cipal at London, to become the new principal at Lin- coln. Laurie Melendy, the former assistant principal at Bohemia, then filled Be- chen’s job as she is now the principal at London. This then moved Anne Fisk, principal of the now closed Latham, to become assis- tant principal at Bohemia. “We’ve had a lot of lon- gevity, which is great, and I’m sure we’ll have longev- ity in the future but there were several moves right now. And part of that is also, if you’ll remember, is because of Latham. Latham closed and we have to place that principal somewhere as well. There was going to be some movement and there was just more move- ment than we’ve had in a few years,” said McCasline. Kim Scrima, who served as principal at Al Kennedy High School while prin- cipal Halie Ketcher was on maternity leave, is now principal at Kennedy while Ketcher is an assistant principal at CGHS. “With movement comes opportunity,” said Mc- Casline. “Change some- times can be really good so we’re looking forward to all these new administrators and teachers and moving forward and making great things happen for kids.” Health, Happiness Worship Directory COTTAGE GROVE: 6th & Gibbs Church of Christ 195 N. 6th St. • 541-942-3822 10:00am Christian Education: Pre-K through 5th www.6thandgibbs.com First Presbyterian Church 3rd and Adams St 541-942-4479 Rev.: Karen Hill Worship: 10:00am Sunday School: 10:00am fpcgrove.com Calvary Baptist Church 77873 S 6th St • 541-942-4290 Pastor: Riley Hendricks Sunday School: 9:45am Worship: 11:00am The Journey: Sunday 5:00pm Praying Thru Life: Wednesday 6:00pm Hope Fellowship United Pentecostal Church 100 S.
