COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL | WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, 2019 | 3B Local teams earn academic honors Warriors prominent on all-conference teams Seven local teams were honored with the title of academic all-state for the spring season. Th e Cottage Grove teams that were honored includ- ed the soft ball team, boys track and fi eld, girls track and fi eld, boys golf and girls golf. Th e girls golf team recorded the highest GPA of those teams with a team average of 3.73 which placed them fourth in 4A/3A/2A/1A . Th roughout the course of the year, the Lions had 14 teams that were recognized as academic all-state. Th e North Douglas base- ball and soft ball teams were both recognized for their outstanding GPAs. Animals taken away from their natural envi- ronment miss the chance to learn important surviv- al skills from their parents like where to feed, what to eat, how to behave as part of a group and how to escape from predators. Usually this leads to a shortened life span for the animal. Removing or capturing an animal from the wild is a violation of state law (OAR 635-044-0440 “Wildlife may not be captured from the wild and/or held...”) Doing so is considered a Class A Misdemeanor and a court could impose a maximum fi ne of $6,250 fi ne and/or one year in jail.
