COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL | WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5, 2019 | 3A Community News ‘Beat Goes On’ at upcoming Dorena school fundraiser Friday A special carnival fund- raiser will be held in Dore- na this Friday, June 7, to support music and art for the 2019-20 school year. Dorena School’s annual fundraiser “The Beat Goes On” is open to the commu- nity and will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 37141 Row River Road. The carnival is fun for ‘Musick’ returns to The Grove the whole family. A student performance will be followed by a schoolyard-style carnival. The band S.U.R.F. will perform live and there will be food, a raffle, a silent auction, games and prizes, face painting, a dunk tank and more. The event is sponsored by Dorena Parent Club. Volunteers needed for Lakeside Park clean-up The Army Corps of En- gineers is seeking volun- teers to help with clean-up along the Cottage Grove Reservoir this Saturday, June 8, from 9 a.m. to noon. PeaceHealth names Vice President of Operations at Riverbend Elva Sipin is joining PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at River- Bend as vice president of operations (VPO). Her first day at Peace- Health will be June 24. In her role, Sipin will pro- vide operational oversight at RiverBend to ensure we continue meeting the needs of caregivers and pa- tients on this campus. This is a new role for RiverBend that is designed to provide campus oversight. Elva comes to River- bend from Providence St. Joseph Health in Southern California where she most recently served as execu- tive director of post-acute services, said Mary Kings- ton, chief executive, Peace- Health Oregon. In her 18-year career, Sipin has achieved and sustained U.S. News and World Report High Per- forming and Best Nursing Home five years in a row and was instrumental in achieving Magnet designa- tion for Hospital Distinct Skilled Nursing Facility. “As a mission and ser- vant leader, PeaceHealth’s leadership model of serv- ing with humility, cour- age, authenticity and spirit resonated with my heart,” Sipin said. Organized annually by graduate students of the University of Oregon, the confer- ence is unique in the Pacific Northwest. This year, for the second time, the conference came to Cottage Grove for a concert at First Presbyterian Church last Sunday. The Musicking Conference Oratorio Orchestra presented excerpts from G.A. Perti’s “La Beata Imelde” and Q. Colombani’s “Il martirio di S. Cecilia,” conducted by Professor of Musicology Marc Vanscheeuwijck. The event was open to the public and offered free of charge.
