PHOTOS C/O SMILEY GLENN Local lakes provide fi shing opportunities Weekend fi shing opportuni- ties: •Chinook and summer steel- head have been making their way into the Santiam basin, and there are reports of early fi sh having been caught. •Timothy Lake was stocked last week with 4,200 legal and 1,000 trophy trout. •Summer steelhead condi- tions are prime right now on the Clackamas River. •Th ere have been some Chi- nook lurking around the Sandy River. You’ve got a long weekend to check it out. •It will be another busy week of trout stocking around the Willamette Valley, with fi sh go- ing to the Santiam River, Green Peter Reservoir, Estacada Lake, EE Wilson Pond, McKenzie Riv- er below Leaburg Dam, North Fork Reservoir, Timber Lake, Yamhill River, Foster Reservoir, Timothy Lake, Willamette River Coast Fork, Junction City Pond, Leaburg Lake, Fall Creek, Wall- ing Pond, St. Louis Pond, Small Fry Lake, Quartzville Creek, Trillium Lake and Silver Creek Reservoir. Alton Baker Canoe Canal: Trout Was last stocked the week of May 13 with 3,000 legal and 187 large/trophy-size rainbow trout. Th e canoe canal is located within Alton Baker Park and can be accessed from Club Road in Eugene. A four-acre pond at the midpoint of the canal is a good spot but it can be fi shed all along its two-mile length from Day Island Road in Eugene to Aspen Street in Springfi eld. Th e canal is open to fi shing all year. Coast Fork Willamette River: Trout Will be stocked again the week of May 20 with 733 le- gal-size rainbow trout. Th e riv- er is open to fi shing all year for trout, hatchery Chinook salm- on, hatchery steelhead, and wild SWITCH TO THE steelhead over 24-inches. Use of bait allowed April 22 – Oct 31, but beginning Nov. 1 anglers may only use lures and artifi cial fl ies. In addition to fi ve hatch- ery trout, two wild trout may be kept daily. Cottage Grove Pond (Row Riv- er Nature Park Pond): trout, warmwater species Was last stocked the week of April 8 with 1500 legal-size rainbow trout. Cottage Grove Ponds are open to year-round fi shing and via an asphalt pathway behind the truck scales on Row River Road. In addition to fi shing, these ponds also off er wildlife viewing opportunities and a fi shing dock is available on-site. Dexter Reservoir: trout Was last stocked the week of April 15 with 5,000 trophy-size rainbow trout. Dexter Reservoir near Low- ell is visible from Hwy. 58. Boat and bank access is available from state and county parks. Parking and bank access are also available from the cause- way near Lowell. Largemouth bass and some smallmouth are also available to anglers in this reservoir. Dorena Reservoir: trout, warmwater Was last stocked the week of April 29 with 5,000 trophy-size rainbow trout. Dorena Reservoir is east of Cottage Grove on Row River Road and is open to fi shing all year. Trout and warmwater fi sh are available. Baker Bay boat ramp is accessible at the current reservoir elevation.
