Sun In 2012, he made his way back to the South Lane School District by becoming principal at Al Kennedy High School. In the fall of 2017, Ingman was back at CGHS — but this time as the school’s principal. Now, he’s headed to Eu- gene. “I have always dreamt about being a part of the great things going on in the Board from A1 board term, board mem- bers will be making deci- sions on everything from a new superintendent, to what will be done with district property at both the old Harrison Elemen- tary and current Latham School. Regardless of the deci- sions that are made, Mort sees a direct tie from the decisions on the board to Levy from A1 superintendent Aaron Brown. “So, it goes back quite a ways.” Current estimates pre- dict that the local option levy will bring in more Public Notices 8:00 am-6:00pm 9:00am-5:00pm Closed The Flower Basket and Gift Boutique “A Flower Shop and so much more” Floral Arrangements Boutique Clothing Accessories Jewelry Balloons Home Décor Fine Gifts The Lowest Rates in Lane County PUBLIC MEETINGS, TRUSTEE NOTICES, PROBATE, AUCTION & FORECLOSURE NOTICES, AND MORE. Eugene School District. I have lived in Eugene nearly all my life. Both my wife and I attended high school in Eugene. In fact, she is a 1988 Sheldon graduate,” Ingman wrote in a statement for the Eu- gene School District. “My three sons have all attend- ed Eugene schools. I have always longed to give back to community that I feel I owe so much to. Now I have that opportunity.” Ingman will continue to work at CGHS through the end of June. “Leaving Cottage Grove High School was not an easy decision to make, but one that is appropriate for both my personal and professional life,” Ingman wrote in a letter to CGHS parents. A tentative timeline that Ingman supplied to The Sentinel indicates that SLSD posted the position of prinicpal last week and will close the position at the end of the month. Interviews are scheduled for the start of June with a recommendation to super- intendent Larry Sullivan to be made by June 14 with the school board to ap- prove the hire on June 17. the greater well-being of the city. “If the people on the board and the people in the district aren’t aware of the community in which they live and operate and the world in which their kids are living every day and are going to become adults, we become the schools as a place you dump your kids at 8 in the morning and pick your kid up at 5 in the af- ternoon — and hate or ig- nore the rest of the year,” said Mort. “That’s never been a great model and it’s become an infeasible model.” Schwartz, who did not respond to interview re- quests from The Sentinel, also has stressed the value of community. “I believe strongly in civic responsibility and community service. As an educator my primary work is with children and families; this is the pop- ulation I feel moved to serve,” Schwartz writes in her Lane County Voters’ Pamphlet bio. According to her candidate filing form, Schwartz’s education background includes working as a school ad- ministrator. Additionally, she has worked on non- profit boards including Lane County Commis- sion for Children and Families. than $1 million over the five years from 2020 to 2025, a number Brown says has been consistent since the levy was first voted on. “It’s been pretty vital,” he said. “We’ve been able to continue offering mu- sic K-12, we’ve been able to continue with full-time P.E, we’ve been able to keep electives as a whole — vocational-type elec- tives.” The district has about 245 enrolled students and employs a staff of about 40. Renewing funding is said to be necessary to retain staff and classes at their current state. “We’ve been able to of- fer our students a good, well-rounded education and have courses that they’re interested in,” Brown said. If the measure does not pass, the school district anticipates having to make cuts as the budget is reduced by $200,000 or more with each consecu- tive year. “It would most likely be staff of some sort in some way,” said Brown, antici- pating that electives would likely be cut as well. Because the levy is slat- ed to go into effect for the 2020-21 school year, the May 2019 Special Elec- tion is not the district’s last chance to pass the mea- sure. “We didn’t have to do it this election cycle, but we thought we would,” Brown said. Providing the measure does not pass, the district can try another election cycle. “It definitely has helped our district and it will definitely help us continue with the direc- tion that we’re going,” said Brown. “I hope the voters will want to sup- port it because I think it’s great for the kids and our community.” Published weekly in the Cottage Grove Sentinel and online at cgsentinel.com S entinel C ottage G rove INTRODUCING Kevin Holmes, PT, Contact: Meg Fringer 541-942-3325 x1200 Also pictured clinic staff : Ashley Stevens, Dayna Johnson- Lewis, and Victoria Nnoli, PTA mfringer@cgsentinel.com SPRING Tune-Up Deliveries Locally and Worldwide Locally owned and operated since 1984 Quality and Satisfaction Guaranteed Only $99* 119 South 6th Street • 541-942-0505 www.cottagegroveflowerbasket.com We’ll make sure your system is running eff ectively and effi ciently.
