In the fi rst game of the day it
was a pair of pitchers apiece go-
ing the distance for each side as
North Douglas used the combi-
nation of Colter Anderson and
Brian Erickson while Bandon
went with ace Braydon Freitag
and Coby Smith. Anderson fi n-
ished with fi ve strikeouts while
Freitag had eight for the Wildcats
in the shutout.
In the fi ft h inning it was the
North Douglas infi eld rising to
the occasion as they recorded
back-to-back tags at the plate to
keep the game scoreless. Bandon
continued to threaten to score
and broke through in the eighth
inning with a pair of runs.
“We talk all the time that
hitting is contagious. Even get-
ting guys on base is contagious,
doesn’t matter if there’s a walk or
a hit by a bat,” said Bandon head
coach Jay Ferrell. “Everybody
gets a little more animated in the
thing then you see guys run bases
and it just steamrolls. And that’s

It was a battle of the pitchers on
Saturday in Drain.
In a double-header that saw
both games controlled by those
on the mound – and both games
go to extra innings – it was North
Douglas and Bandon splitting
a pair with the Wildcats (6-10,
4-2 Special District 5) winning
the fi rst matchup 2-0 in eight in-
nings and the Warriors (10-4, 4-2
Special District 4) claiming game
two 2-1 in nine innings.
“Just proud of their mentality
through seven hours of baseball,”
said North Douglas head coach
Jeff Davis. “I’m on them a lot
about being consistent because
we’ve been up and down... But we
didn’t appear outwardly discour-
aged by that fi rst game loss. We
didn’t let that eat at us, we came
back and approached the second
what we’ve got to do, we just
weren’t getting on in those fi rst
fi ve innings.”
Austin Frieze, Koldan Frieze
and Anderson all had singles for
the Warriors.
In the second game of the day,
the Warriors were given a boost
from freshman pitcher Waylon
Beckham who struck out seven
batters. Th e game went into ex-
tra innings tied at 1-1 before the
Warriors were able to capitalize
in the ninth on a throwing error
to take the game. Th e Warriors
have now won six of their last
seven games.
“I think we’re in a good place
and heading in the right direc-
tion,” said Davis. “Anybody in
this league is capable of beating
anybody else on a given day. We
just hope we can win a few in a
row here.”
Th is week the Warriors have
a series with Glendale (4-8, 0-6
Special District 4). Th e Pirates
have lost eight straight games.
