2A • COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL • JANUARY 23, 2019 RECORDS POLICE LOG Jan. 20 • Individual reported attempting to hitchhike on the I-5 ramps. Subject was wearing no pants. Jan. 19 • Off ensive littering discovered aft er report of illegal burning reported. • Male subject reported as attempting to fi ght the female bartender and other patrons at local bar. He removed his shirt and was kicked out of the building before he returned. Jan 18 • Complainant reported three teenagers in the area knocking on doors. Complainant was home alone and scared. Teenagers had knocked three times. • An individual was warned to “walk their wheels” near E. Main Street. • Disorderly subject reported on South R. Street. Main laying in the middle of the street, yelling. Jan. 17 • Intoxicated subject seen staggering on Harrison. • A man opened his front door to fi nd a female subject smoking weed on his porch. Engulfed him with smoke. When asked what she was doing there, she responded by asking for the time and leaving. DEATH NOTICE SMITH—Harriet Emma Smith, 96, of Cottage Grove, died Jan. 19, 2019. Kirby 1970-2019 John P. Kirby, 48 of Cottage Grove, OR passed away on January 10, 2019. He was born on March 6, 1970 in N.A.S. Quonset Point, Rhode Island to parents Daniel P. and Sally A. (McCormack) Kirby. John graduated from Milpitas High School and received certifi cation as a long-haul truck driver. He worked in shipping and handling for Amazon for 7 years and as a manager for Home Depot for 3 years. John enjoyed being a DJ and participating in the 10-day Burning Man Events. John is survived by his parents, Dan and Sally Kirby, Cottage Grove, OR; sister, Susan Struck, Tillamook, OR; a niece, nephew, great niece and great nephew. Betty Gail Wolfard 1938-2019 Betty Gail Wolfard of Cottage Grove, OR died on January 13, 2019, at the age of 80. She was born on May 2, 1938 in Fargo, ND to parents Ralph and June (Mollberg) Medberry. She was with her domestic partner, Scotty Smith, for 30 years. Betty is survived by son, Dennis (Karen) Wolfard of Harrisburg, OR; daughter, Cindy (Tony) Wolfard-Hunter of Cottage Grove; daughter, Teresa (Tony) Jenkins of Cottage Grove; sister, Jill Barlow, of Cottage Grove; brother, Jack (Shirley Marie Raven) Medberry of Cottage Grove; brother, Michael (Carla) Turner of Eugene; brother, Shane (Nora) Turner of Pacifica, CA; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Wolfard, Jr., 3 brothers and 1 sister. There will be a private Family Graveside at Taylor Lane Cemetery. S entinel C ottage G rove www.cgsentinel.com @ cgsentinel @cgsentinel #cgsentinel Cottage-Grove-Sentinel Kenneth “Ken” Hull 1953-2019 Kenneth “Ken” Hull, a former resident of Eugene Oregon, passed away on January 11th 2019 at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington. He was 65. Ken was born in Klamath Falls on September 3, 1953 and later moved to Cottage Grove where he graduated from Cottage Grove High School. He attended Southern Oregon University before starting his career in Law Enforcement. Ken began his Law Enforcement career with the Oregon State Police and then joined the Lane County Sheriff ’s Offi ce as a Deputy Sheriff in 1978 where he retired aft er 25 years of service in 2003. Upon retirement, Ken decided to take his skill set to Th ree Rivers Casino where he soon was promoted to the Director of Security and worked for 10 years. Ken was recruited by Seven Feathers Casino and Resort to be an Assistant General Manager and that is where he ended his working career. Ken’s personality impacted the lives of both those he worked with and the public he served. By using compassionate humor, he was able to diff use stressful situations with favorable outcomes. Th ese qualities were displayed throughout his entire career. His life was chronicled by the many letters and notes he wrote to express his love to his family. His legacy of selfl essness, compassion and generosity lives on in his children and grandchildren who possess many of these similar qualities. Ken is survived by his wife Cynthia “Cindy” Lanz Hull of Vancouver, WA; daughter Jennifer Kirwan her husband Wayne and their daughter Kerenza of Beaverton, OR; son Jared Hull his wife Cara and their daughters Lyla, Kylie and Claire of Camas, WA; parents Robert and Janice Hull of Cottage Grove, OR; and also his brother Michael Hull and his wife Shirley. A Celebration of Life for Ken will be held at Musgrove Family Mortuary on January 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Remembrances can be made to the Lane County Sheriff ’s Offi ce Search and Rescue or K9 Unit.
