cisco.’”
Prior to his death, Lurch had
quick-claimed the property
to his daughter, Lilly, but she
didn’t hang onto it very long.
Somewhere between 1922 and
1926, the house was moved
from its location on Main Street
to where it sits now, next to the
Red Oak tree on Adams Street.
A developer named Earl Hill
was in possession of the prop-
erty by 1936 and, in 1946, 412
Adams was sold to and held by
a family for more than 50 years.
Cora Dailey and the Dai-
ley family held the home un-
til 2014, when it was sold to a
member of Th e Sentinel’s pre-
vious sales staff — a man who
used to sit at the desk Santana
currently occupies.
“Th ere’s a lot of connections
between Th e Sentinel and the
house,” he said. “Th ere were so
many things — signs that led
us to the house.”
By the time Santana en-
tered the house in 2018, it was
a mess. Th e electrical system
wasn’t up to code, the exterior
needed a lot of work and some
of the rooms had been left half
renovated.

“I had started pulling down
the cobwebs and the wallpaper,
but the more I thought about
the house and the history, I
started wondering if I should
be taking all of these things
down,” he said.
So, Santana embarked on a
journey to uncover the history
of his new home with the help
of the local historical society.
Now, Santana is working
with the historical society to
give a talk later this year on the
property’s history and, with the
exception of the exterior, the
interior of the house is livable
again and mirrors the house’s
history.
“We changed some things,”
Santana said. “But except for a
few fi xtures and some drywall
in the entry, it’s back to livable.”
Th e family doesn’t mind
the renovation process. Before
moving from California, they
owned an old Victorian house
in a popular area of the state
that used to be home to writ-
er Jack Kerouac. When they
decided to leave the area, one
place topped their list: Para-
dise, Calif.

Hit and run:
In 2013, sisters Abigail Rob-
inson and Anna Dieter-Eck-
ert were killed when a neigh-
bor hit them with her vehicle
while they were playing in a
pile of leaves near the street.
Th e neighbor felt what she
described as a “bump” but
continued driving, not imag-
ining she had hit two chil-
dren.
Th e neighbor eventually
turned herself in aft er con-
necting her car ride to the
girls’ deaths and was sen-
tenced to probation and com-
munity service.
Anna and Abigail’s law, in
eff ect as of Jan. 1, requires
drivers to return to the scene
as soon as they have reason to
believe they hit a person or a
pet.
