While this chapter of Finley’s time in Cot- tage Grove has come to a close, he notes that there is still hope that one day he will be back. “Cottage Grove High School is a school that I would love to someday have my kids go to high school at. Working in that atmo- sphere and seeing how the kids interact with each other and interact with the staff, I hope one day that things work out and we do move back and I can send my kids to that high school because it is a cool place,” he said. Cottage Grove Boys Cross Country: On Friday the Lions host- ed a two-mile trial where Cottage Grove’s own Jimmy alley took first place in a time of 11:25. Konrad Raum (11:49) and Paesen Timm (11:57) rounded out the top five finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Shambay Gabriel Trapp (13:54) and Justin Francis (13:57) fin- ished 21st and 22nd to help the Lions take first place among the five teams that competed. Cottage Grove Girls Cross Country: In a two-mile time trial, the team was led by fresh- man Evie Smith (15:58) who finished ninth overall in the race. Smith was followed by Nadia Witt (16:28), Kenzie Parsons (16:30) and Eterni- ty Remiche (16:36) in 11th, 12th and 13th place. Emma Gilbert-Spires (17:30) rounded out the top five for Cottage Grove. The team placed second overall out of six teams. North Douglas Volleyball In a 1A Preview tourna- ment hosted by Country Christian, North Douglas went 5-1 including a victo- ry over four-time defending champion and number one ranked Country Christian. The Warriors, who were ranked seventh in the OSAA preseason coaches’ poll, also defeated third-ranked Jo- seph, fourth-ranked Cross- hill Christian and Adrian. The Warriors lost to Powder Valley. Yoncalla Volleyball The Eagles started their season off by defeating Crow in straight sets. Kaleigh Soto had 14 digs and the game and Cassidy Bragg had sev- en aces. Yoncalla then fell to 4A Elmira in five sets (18-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-19, 15-12).
