COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL JUNE 20, 2018 2A RECORDS POLICE LOG June 18 • A call of a suspicious condition was reported when a silver pick-up truck’s alarm continued to sound and damage to the tailgate was observed. • Report of harassment received in the area of S. R St. citing neighbor allow- ing their dog to defecate on the property and purpose- ly placing the waste on the property. • Suspicious subject re- ported near S. 21st Street. Individual asking about property for rent, refusing to leave. June 17 • Suspicious vehicle re- ported on Row River Road aft er being parked in loca- tion for more than a week. • Th eft reported on Ninth St. aft er items reportedly taken from a front porch. • A civil issue was report- ed over a dispute concerning ownership of a cell phone. • Suspicious vehicle re- ported on the 300 block of Second Street. Caller ob- served man take tires out of the vehicle, place them on the roof and climb into the backseat. • Noise complaint fi led in the area of Hillside Drive. • Disorderly subject re- ported in the area of Village Drive Transient reported screaming at female. June 16 Suspicious condition re- ported near Patrick Loop. Front door of home left open for quite a while, no signs of activity. Dogs at the residence, door usually kept closed. • Disturbance reported near N 16th Street. Group of subject gathered comforting a crying female. Two males reportedly say they’re going up the street to “buy a bag of dope.” • Noise complaint near Edgewater. • Individual passed out behind the wheel of their car at their residence, loud mu- sic coming from the vehicle, subject asleep in the vehicle. June 15 • Request for offi cer made aft er reported theft of a cat near Lane St. • Intoxicated subject re- ported aft er male seen fall- hibited including campfi res, charcoal fi res, cooking fi res and warming fi res unless a fi re pit is present at the loca- tion. Portable cooking stoves using liquefi ed or bottled fuel are allowed. Briquette is also allowed in barbecues but is not allowed on hard, non-fl ammable surfaces such as patios, driveways, gravel or green, irrigated lawns. Power saws may be used on days that are considered low fi re danger days, marked in green. Th ey can also be used be- fore 1 p.m. and aft er 8 p.m. on blue days and before 10 a.m. and aft er 8 p.m. on high fi re danger days marked as yellow. No power saws may be used on red days. Th e same rules are in aff ect for the cutting, grinding or weld- ing of metal and the cutting or mowing of dried, cured grass. Motor vehicles including ATVs and motorcycles are only allowed on improved 70th Anniversary roads, free of fl ammable veg- etation other than to culture and/or harvest agricultural crops. Illegal fi reworks are pro- hibited at all times in any location within the district. Legal fi reworks may be used in areas free of fried, cured grass, brush ore trees unless prohibited in areas jointly protected by SLFR and the Oregon Department of For- estry. Cell phone penalties to be fully enforced beginning July 1 law approved by the state legislature that hit the streets on last October will now have the full force of its in- tended penalties on July 1. Drivers who use their cell phone while operating a ve- hicle will face fi nes reaching beyond $2,500. Drivers may also get up to six months in jail. A fi rst-time off ense will carry a fi ne of up to $1,000 but a minimum of $130. A second off ense will cost drivers at least $220 but up to $2,000 and a third off ense within a span of 10 years will result in a fi ne of $2,500 and the potential jail-time. Th e law passed during the 2017 legislative session closed a loophole that al- lowed drivers to utilize their phones for tasks other than making a phone call while driving. Th e original law out- lawed talking on the phone while operating a vehicle but made no mention of scroll- ing through social media or other apps. Nonprofit organization to host service dog training class at LCC Service Support Dogs (SSD) is a self-help training program for veterans that allows veterans to train their own service dogs has part- nered with Lane Communi- ty College. Instructor Jason Coutts will teach a class focused on service dog training this fall that is free of charge for those who have served in the armed forces.
