COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL JUNE 13, 2018 WORLD CUP from B1 pieces are there for both teams and it’s just a matter of putting them altogether. If you are a fan of Oregon State foot- ball… …then you should be cheering for Saudi Arabia! These teams are nearly one in the same and not for the best reasons. Much like OSU, this Saudi Arabia team is overmatched. Coming into the World Cup they are ranked 70th in the world which is the lowest of the 32 teams playing. Both teams know a good deal 2B about finishing at the bottom of the standings. More than performance on the field, what is most striking is that in the last year, both of these teams have had three different head coaches within the last year. But you know, hey — may- be this is the year they turn it around? No? Okay, moving on. If you are a fan of UO football… …then you should be cheering for Sweden! Sweden and Oregon football: The eternal bridesmaids. • Neither team has won the big game but have both come agonizingly close (Sweden has been to the semifinals four times in their history) • Both teams are searching for their identity after the departure of a star (Marcus Mariota’s graduation/Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s retirement from interna- tional play in 2016. Though to be clear, the parallels in this stop right there be- cause Zlatan comes off in interviews as 100 percent arrogant while Marcus is just 100 percent perfect.) • Thinking they maybe have that star (Justin Herbert/Emil Forsberg) but are ultimately unsure of how they can de- liver. So if you are into a small taste of suc- cess and an unsure future, look no fur- ther than each of these teams. (Would like to note that this has nothing to do with Sweden’s vanilla jerseys. If this list was based off jerseys, UO would most certainly be Nigeria for their majestic green zig-zag jerseys that sold out as soon as they went up online. Over three million have been sold.) If you are a fan of the Portland Trail Blazers…. …you should be cheering for En- gland! Do you dwell upon that one time you won a championship over 40 years ago? Do you enjoy having your heart ripped out? Do you try to lower your expecta- KNUTSON from B1 Athletic director Roberts said, “I don’t know if me re- sponding will make anything better. Ricky’s a good friend of mine,” when contacted about Knutson's statement. Knutson, a teacher at CGHS, has been head coach at the school since 2012 and began as an assistant in 2006. Prior to that he coached track and cross country at Philomath and tions on how the team will do only for them to do just good enough so that you think that maybe they really are for real and in this moment of hope-filled weakness they then crush your very soul with a painful loss? Wow, this feels just a little too on the nose. And there you have it, your 2018 guide to the World Cup. If none of those teams do the trick for you and you are really holding out to cheer for U.S. men’s national team, the 2022 World Cup is just 1622 days away. Qatar here we come! South Albany. “I would hope things would get better at some point but I’m not doing this to make a point. It’s not a protest, it’s not a big political move or anything like that. When I coach, I’m all in,” he said. “And I’ve got to feel like our athletic department is, too. And it that’s not what we’re going to do, then I think we’re sending the wrong message to kids.” Knutson reported that mul- tiple high schools have reached out to about coaching, but he has no plans to move. “I really like my job here and I don’t know that I want to move my kids. I really want to teach where my kids go to school. And I don’t really want to commute. I mean, I know people do it all the time but it automatically goes from coach- ing and spending time with my kids to spending more time on the road to coach somewhere else,” said Knutson. The track and field team celebrates its third-straight co-ed championship last week. South Valley Athletics Summer Sports!! Glenn was also named 2017 all-state defensive player of the year. After entertaining offers from other schools, the pair saw George Fox as a place where they would be able to thrive ac- ademically and on the field. In addition to being able to play with one another. “We influenced each oth- er, I think. Because Cooper is obviously a very good student — he has like a 4.28 GPA or something — so he found this school and it’s a really good academic school and I was able to go there as well. And it just worked out as well,” said Glenn. “It came together and we were like, ‘Oh my gosh, my best friend since sixth grade and I get to play football with him for another four years.’ At, again, our most dedicated point, this is college football. This is the next level. It’s just a dream come true,” said Ladd before adding, “You better watch George Fox in the next four years.” FOR THE KIDS: Volleyball camps (3rd thru 6th grade 2018-2019 school year): 6/18-6/20 (Register by 6/1) 7/23-7/25 (Register by 7/6) 8/27-8/29 (Register by 8/10) $40 each; register and pay for fi rst two, get third for $10 Cheer camp (K-6th grade 2018-2019 school year): 7/16-7/20 (Register by 6/29) $40 Tennis camp (K-12th grade 2018-2019 school year): 8/13-8/17 (Register by 7/27) $50 Caring for your Health WE OFFER: FOR THE ADULTS: SCORES - Wednesday evenings 6/20-8/15 (Register by 6/1) 15 years and older (must be going into sophomore year or older) $45 per person (NEW THIS YEAR: no team fee) •Spine Care •Orthopedic/Sports Rehab •Job Injuries •MVA •Foot Care •Chronic Pain Syndrome •Stabilization Therapy •Manual Therapy •McKenzie Method •Women’s Health •Pelvic Floor Rehab •Aquatic Therapy • FREE & unlimited access to Anytime Fitness Club during clinic hours • Lunchtime, evening, early morning appointments • Convenient location within the Safeway Plaza Cottage Grove Physical Therapy Call/text 541-942-3079; email southvalleyathletics@gmail.com or ???
