6A COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL JANUARY 3, 2018 visit us online www.cgsentinel.com WE HAVE SANDBAGS! WE HAVE ICE MELT! T he day before Thanksgiving, Sar- ah found her moth- er, Mandy, outside crying because she thought the family’s 10-month-old Golden Retriever puppy, Radiance, might have rabies. “Radiance is not in her right mind, she’s foaming at the mouth, her legs are limp, and her eyes are not focusing,” said Mandy. “Go into the house and DO NOT come outside. If she sees you, she will run to you. Pray for her." Sarah ran inside, catapult- ed herself on the couch and burst into tears. "My dog is my joy! With- out her I would be heart- broken," said 11-year-old Sarah. Mandy came to check on her devastated daughter and tell her that, “Radi- ance is now paralyzed, except for her head.” “Can she survive rabies? Is there a cure?” pleaded Sarah. Sobbing, the two of them hugged and Mandy whispered, "I don't know," as they went to where Sarah’s grandfather had Radiance. “I ran toward my suffer- ing pup,” said Sarah. “Her head was bobbing around, and her eyes were moving everywhere. She could not walk or stand, but she was still trying to come to me. She was not vicious or growling, just confused. It was the worst thing I have ever seen in my life.” Her mother and grandfather took a blanket, placed the weak dog on it, and lifted the blan- ket into the bed of their truck. Knowing Radi- ance's life was at risk they sped to the closest vet clinic. For some unex- plained reason, the clinical staff showed little concern for their dog's life-threatening circum- stance. Frustrated, they sped to a second clinic where the veterinarian determined that Radiance did not have rabies and surmised it was poisoning. He administered some- thing to make her “toss her cookies” and almost immediately, she began acting like herself. The vet found that the dog had eaten hundreds of fast-acting toxic Sago palm seeds which cause liver damage and can be fatal. The veterinarian said, “The best thing for the dog is to stay overnight. We will run IVs into her to give her the best chance of survival.” So, before leaving Sarah and her mother prayed over Radiance. "Everyone was sure my dog would die because it is not possible for one to eat that many poisonous seeds and survive," said Sarah. Concerned, Sar- ah's mom again prayed, "Lord, please heal her and let her live. We command toxins to go in Jesus' name and His power." “I hugged Radiance and when I went to blow my nose, she got up on her two front paws!” ex- claimed a surprised Sarah. “Everyone was shocked!” It was a miracle!” Then Sarah's mother prayed, again, "Lord, please put a hedge of pro- tection around her liver so no toxins can damage it." Suddenly, the dog wagged her tail! “Her tail wasn't paralyzed anymore,” said Sarah. “It was miraculous!” The next morning the clinic called to say, “Come and pick up your dog. Your dog is fully re- covered. Her paralysis has left and her liver shows no signs of damage or toxici- ty.” The family marveled at their Thanksgiving miracle. When Sarah's family went to get Radiance, she raced to them full of ener- gy and joy! "We walked in and Radiance was perfectly normal!” said Sarah. “The vet told us, ‘She’s been barking all morning trying to get us to play with her!’ Now how is that for a dog who was on the brink of death?! Radiance had eat- en hundreds of poisonous seeds and dogs do die, but not Radiance. With God's Mercy, she is our miracle dog!” TIPS Sarah taught Radiance to put a mini ball in a mini basketball hoop. When they are both older, Sarah plans on teaching Radi- ance, “How to shoot a real basketball into a real hoop.” angelscribe@msn.com “Follow” Pet Tips ‘n’ Tales on Facebook. facebook.com/Pet- TipsandTales Adopt Loving Pets www.PetFinder.com Humane Society for Neuter/Spay Assistance Program.
