Right: Oregon State's coach Gary Anderson during spring practice. Between Pac-12 media day, fi rst day of practice and UO's Saturday Night Live, a look back at the busy week in Oregon and Oregon State football Saturday Night Live Saturday afternoon, the University of Oregon football program welcomed high school recruits from across the country to Autzen Stadium in what was dubbed “Sat- urday Night Live.” 73 recruits wearing black UO attire that had new head coach Willie Taggart’s catch- phrase “Do Something” across the chest took to the fi eld to participate in position specifi c drills with UO coaches. The event was held in Autzen Stadium after accruing fan excitement saw an estimated 1500 fans in attendance. The point of the event was to be able to showcase Oregon’s football facilities to these recruits which allows the coaches to talk to them and see how they can play on the fi eld. Eight players who have already committed for Oregon were at the event and four more made verbal commitments on the day of the event. The highlights of the event came when the recruits went into a drill that featured fi ve receivers and fi ve defensive backs. The crowd oohed and aahed with each catch and broke into cheer each time one of the play- ers faced the audience and made the Oregon “O” with his hands in celebration. transfer Jake Luton. The other storyline that has people across the state talking is new Oregon State run- ning back Thomas Tyner. The former Duck and high school star, medically retired from University of Oregon in 2016 and will be joining forces with the established running back Ryan Nall. Beavers to Bend Pac-12 Media day was last week and based off of the media votes, the Ducks are projected to fi nish fourth and the Beavers fi fth in the North division. The two Ore- gon schools trail Washington, Stanford and Washington State. USC, the projected South division champions, were also dubbed the eventual Pac-12 champions. Oregon picked up one vote to win the Pac-12 title. On the Oregon State side of things, the Beavers opened up practice in Corvallis last week and are now practicing in Bend. The top storyline for the Beavers is the question of who will be quarterback on opening day. The competition is taking place between returners Marcus McMary- ion and Darell Garretson and junior college The Kings in the North Caring for your Health WE OFFER: 6SLQH&DUH2UWKRSHGLF6SRUWV5HKDE -RE,QMXULHV09$:RUN&RQGLWLRQLQJ )RRW&DUH&KURQLF3DLQ6\QGURPH 6WDELOL]DWLRQ7KHUDS\0DQXDO7KHUDS\ 0F.HQ]LH0HWKRG )5((XQOLPLWHGDFFHVVWR$Q\WLPH )LWQHVV&OXEGXULQJFOLQLFKRXUV /XQFKWLPHHYHQLQJHDUO\PRUQLQJ DSSRLQWPHQWV &RQYHQLHQWORFDWLRQZLWKLQWKH6DIHZD\ 3OD]D Bell, Roseburg high school football coach (second in all-time wins); 2002 University of Portland NCAA champion women’s soc- cer team; Aaron Paulson, adaptive sports paralympic swimming gold medalist; and 2006-2007 Oregon State baseball College World Series champions.
