Zach Silva Sunday morning breakfast-goers traded in their usual routines of sleeping in and zsilva@cgsentinel.com eating indoors for waking up before the sun and heading to Bohemia Saddle Camp for the annual Miner’s Breakfast. In conjunction with Bohemia Mining Days, the Cottage Grove Prospectors and Golddiggers held the 53rd annual breakfast on the mountain, which starts at 6 a.m. and was expected to feed 1000 people, to celebrate and remember the history of the area while raising money for local scholarships. “If they haven’t been up here it’s a must-do for local people,” said Lloyd Williams who has been a member of the organization for 12 years and who was helping prepare meals. “It’s a beautiful drive, it’s something different and people are always looking for things that are fresh.” While most patrons make the drive to the tucked away area that is outside of any semblance of cell phone reception on the day of, others, including those preparing breakfast, camp onsite in preparation for the morning. For all who purchase a meal they are treated to a breakfast of pancakes, that Williams’s mentions features a “secret ingredient” that keeps them fl uffy, ham and fried eggs. As the sun started to creep through the trees and mosquitos buzzed around breakfast plates, the line for breakfast began to steadily grow. There were young and old alike in line and groups of friends and family clumped together as they started their day. “It’s about seeing people and it’s a nice drive,” said Doug Bailey a Cottage Grove resident who woke up at 4:30 a.m. for the event. “I haven’t been up here for probably ten years and was talking to [my friend Jim] the other day and so I thought I’d come up. But I haven’t been up here this early before.” The early morning also did not stop Lisa and Asa Carpenter of Drain, who woke up at 3:00 a.m., from bringing their two kids, a two-and-a-half year old and a 7 month old baby, from coming out. “It’s a nice way to get a way from city life especially for the little ones,” said Lisa. “I’d rather have them play with sticks and rocks than watch TV.” BMD stats, winners The 53 Annual Miners Breakfast: The Pros- pectors & Golddiggers Club served 823 people on Sunday morning. All this entertainment is the result of generous contributions from local businesses and individuals. Everyone can play a role in bringing the Symphony to Cottage Grove. We have symphony Bars for sale. All the precedes from the Bar sales go to bring the Symphony to Cottage Grove. Symphony Bars are $5.00 each and can be purchased at City Hall, Library//Community Center or Middlefi eld Golf Course, Cottage Grove Sentinel, Concerts in the Park and the Bookmine. Symphony will be at the Bohemia Park Pavilion. Th e Instrument Petting Zoo provides a hands-on experience with instruments from the symphony. It is open to all ages but youth and children are encouraged to try out instruments. COMMUNITY BAND 6:30pm the Community Band are local musicians that join together during the summer. EUGENE SYMPHONY 7:30pm the will take the stage and begin their performance. Bring a picnic or visit a food vendor.
