8A COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL JULY 5, 2017 CHAMBER NEWSLETTER Our Mission: Th e Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce promotes economic vitality through advocacy and collaboration with its members and the larger community. July 2017 Director’s Note Th e busiest month of the year in Cottage Grove will be even busier than usual this year. In addition to four Concerts in the Park, the Cottage Grove Rodeo, Bohemia Mining Days, the Eugene Symphony, a Fly-In, KNND’s Rock Roll N’ Rumble Car Show, the Main Street Chili Cook-Off , the Tri at the Grove, and Art Walk (just to name a few) we will also see a group of 300 cyclists participating in an event called Bicycle Rides Northwest on July 26 th . Th ese cyclists will make an overnight stop in Cottage Grove as part of a week-long ride throughout Oregon. During their short stay, we at the Chamber encourage citizens and businesses to welcome these visitors and encourage them to come back to Cottage Grove when they have more time. Th ere’s a real opportunity for the community to benefi t when an event brings people in from out of town but it’s not something that people should expect to see immediately. Th e biggest impact comes over time when people return to the community bringing their friends and families, who stay in our hotels, shop in our stores, eat at our restaurants and fi ll up with gas on their way out of town. Increased visitor traffi c helps with tax revenue and supports jobs. When employers do well, they support the local economy. When the local economy is healthy, the community becomes more attractive for businesses who are looking to expand or relocate, which then spurs even more job growth and prosperity for citizens and in-turn, encourages entrepreneurship. Every small gesture that a person or business can make to showcase Cottage Grove will ultimately help to stimulate our local economy over time. So, while it may seem like summertime in Cottage Grove is all about events and recreation, it’s actually much more than that. It’s a time to strengthen the economy and promote healthy growth. It’s our time to shine and promote, improve and enjoy the community that we live, work and play in.
