COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL JUNE 7, 2017 Congratulations! to our SLSD investigation complete Report yields no wrongdoing on part of superintendent Resident Employee of the Month of the Month Rick Boyce By Caitlyn May Ray Franklin cmay@cgsentinel.com for the Month of May, 2017 Magnolia Gardens 541-942-0054 1425 Daugherty Ave. • Cottage Grove Comprehensive family, medical eyecare and optical services 11A An independent in- vestigator has concluded that South Lane Super- intendent Krista Parent did not violate school district policy or break state law after a complaint was lodged with the school dis- trict concerning aspects of Parent's personal life. "The report said there was no policy bro- ken. She did nothing wrong," South Lane Board President Sherry Duerst-Higgins told The Sentinel. The board went into executive session Monday night. The matter was not dis- cussed during the public meeting. The investigation was launched after chatter on social media began circulating and a Eugene media outlet ran a story con- cerning the issue. At a subsequent school board meeting, two residents attempted to approach the board with a complaint about Parent's personal life, sparking more discus- sion about the topic and several additional news articles which garnered further ques- tions concerning the issue and if Parent and the board had broken public meetings law. According to the Oregon School Board As- sociation, no violation of public meetings law occurred and no further determination can be made without an offi cial complaint to the Oregon Attorney General's Offi ce which would offer a decision on the matter after investigating the complaint. At a separate meeting, Duerst-Higgins noted that the investigation was essential- ly for "public relation reasons." The South Lane School District has no policy on re- cord forbidding fraternizing. The independent investigator visited Cot- tage Grove and according to the school dis- trict spoke with several staff members who were involved or would have knowledge of the issues contained within the complaint. "The investigator was hired through our attorney," Duerst-Higgins stated. No further information was available as of press time. A statement from the school district con- cerning the fi ndings is expected this week and will be available online at cgsentinel. com. As your Fire Chief, I have been made aware some insurance providers that did not change to the new ISO PPC rating for the District and continue to rate properties based on the old ISO PPC Rating of 5/9, which expired March 31, 2016. Eff ective April 1, 2016 the District’s new ISO PPC Rating of 2/4/10W became eff ective and is what each of your home and business policies should be rated on, if you are covered by a company using ISO. Th ere are insurance companies that do not use the ISO Rating. Th e District invested considerable time, eff ort, and tax dollars, with your support, to achieve the new ISO PPC Rating of 2/4/10W on April 1, 2016. Th is was made possible partially by the 2012 Operations and Staffi ng Levy and the 2015 General Obligation Bond. Th e 2012 Operations and Staffi ng Levy provides the needed 24/7 Career Firefi ghter/Paramedics, while the 2015 General Obligation Bond provided the new fl eet.
