A houseful of oddball relatives, snobby neighbors, a “killer” squirrel,
electrical outages ... what could go wrong?! This 1989 holiday comedy
starring Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo may be wildly uneven, but
when it hits – and it often does, thanks to supporting players including
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Diane Ladd, E.G. Marshall, Doris Roberts, John
Randolph, Juliette Lewis, Johnny Galecki and Randy Quaid – it really hits,
with some truly memorable slapstick humor. Perhaps wisely overlooked at
the Oscars, it’s still a not-too-guilty pleasure each Christmastime, especially
for our Editor!
