2A COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL November 23, 2016 IN MEMORIAM Jacqueline M. Bryan 1930-2016 Jack Gleason 1935-2016 Harold A. Skelton 1930-2016 Jacqueline M. (Mogle) Bry- an, 86, of Dorena, passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 from cancer. Jacqueline was a lovely woman and wonder- ful mother who was born Aug. 28, 1930 and raised in Elkhart, Indiana. She gradu- ated from Elkhart High School in 1948 and went to work for Miles Laboratories. She married John L. Bryan from Mishawaka, Ind., and had two sons and then moved to a ranch in Craig, Colo., where she had a daughter. She spent her working life as an executive secretary to differ- ent lawyers, doctors and CEOs. Preceding her in death were her son, John C. Bryan, from cancer in 1997, and her hus- band, John L. Bryan, in 2009 from cancer. Survivors include her son, Patrick (Pamela) A. Bryan of Culp Creek, Ore., her daugh- ter, Meegan (Evan) M. Fringer of Dorena, and three grandchil- dren, Kyle E. Fringer, Brianna M. Fringer and William Bryan. Per her wishes, no services will take place. Jack Gleason, 81, of Lorane, Ore. died Nov. 14, 2016 from natural causes. He was born Jan. 13, 1935 in Cottage Grove to Jack and S y l v i a (Miller) Gleason. J a c k served in the Navy and then worked as a logger for 66 years. He and Helen Nadine Wil- liams were married in Washing- ton. He liked to play pool and was considered a “pool shark”. He loved his dog, Zip. Survivors include two daugh- ters, Julie Ann Gleason of Springfi eld, Ore. and Susan Roseberry of Santa Fe, New Mexico, two sons, Jack R. Glea- son of Cottage Grove, Ore. and Randy Gleason of Lorane, Ore., four siblings, Lilly Hughes of Cottage Grove, Ore., Linda Hamilton of Cottage Grove, Ore., Bill Morris of Cottage Grove, Ore. and Tom Morris of Twin Falls, Idaho, Ore., 12 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren. No service is planned. Ar- rangements under the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Cha- pel, Cottage Grove. Harold A. Skelton, 86, of Kingman, Arizona passed away at his home on Nov. 6, 2016. He was formerly of Cottage Grove, Oregon and Bon- ners Ferry, Idaho. Harold was born in Gran- geville, Idaho on May 29, 1930. He graduated from high school in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. He mar- ried Dorothy L. Marks on Oct. 30, 1954 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He worked as a welder and heavy machine mechanic. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the Army. He was involved in raising Santa Gertrudis cattle in Oregon. A fa- miliar sight was his yellow 1960 Chevy pick-up. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Laura Skelton of Bonners Ferry, Ida- ho, his son, Timothy Skelton of Kingman, Arizona and Cottage Grove, Oregon, and fi ve broth- ers of southern Idaho. Harold is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Skelton of Kingman, formerly of Cottage Grove, a daughter, Susie Marie and her husband, John Maury, of Cottage Grove, six grandchil- dren and four great-grandchil- dren. (Eriksen) Sparhawk 1940-2016 Lavina E. (Eriksen) Spar- hawk, 76, passed away at her home on Nov. 14, 2016. She was born March 12, 1940 to Elliott and Flor- ence Erik- sen in Fred- eric, Wisc. On April 20, 1996 in Cottage Grove, she and Dale Sparhawk were married. She had many joys in life. She enjoyed spending time with her family, loved going to garage sales, collecting every trinket she could fi nd, and going to ca- sinos, Three Rivers being her favorite. She always enjoyed it no matter if she won or lost, but most times she won. She also loved Christmas snowmen. She was a volunteer and caregiver. Survivors include her husband, Dale Sparhawk of Drain, daugh- ter, Teresa Roesner and fi ancee Bruce Winner of Springfi eld, sons, David and Terry Ledford of Cottage Grove, Ralph (Boog) and Anita Ledford of Cottage Grove, and Mark Ledford of Eugene, stepdaughter, Pam Bar- nett of Cottage Grove, numer- ous grandkids and great grand- kids, two sisters, two brothers, and many sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Kyle Ledford. There will be a Celebration of Life potluck Dec. 10, 2016 at 1 p.m.at Dorena Grange, 34360 Row River Rd., Cottage Grove. Please see GARDENING, Page 10A Robert C. Bailey 1938-2016 Robert C. Bailey (Calvin), 78, died Oct. 20, 2016 in Cottage Grove from con- gestive heart failure. He was born Aug. 5, 1938 in Cottage Grove to Robert H. and Viola E. (Wright) Bailey. He graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1957. On Feb. 12, 1960 in Cottage Grove, he and Judith Bennett were married. Robert worked in logging and was a log truck driver. He re- tired from Weyerhaeuser after 36 years, missing only eight days due to illness. Robert’s true passion was his farm and making it into a beau- tiful home for his family. He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and was a member of the Woodworking Union. He was inducted into the Cottage Grove High School Hall of Fame for being a player with the 1955 Lions football team. Survivors include three children, Cindy Lou Evans of Cre- swell, Angela R. Bailey of Cottage Grove and Calvin “Todd” Bailey of Cottage Grove, six grandchildren, Nicholas Simrin of Cottage Grove, Jennifer Simrin of Springfi eld, Zachary Bird (Bailey) of Springfi eld, Christina Bailey of Cottage Grove, Mat- thew Martichoski of Salem and Jacob Bailey of Cottage Grove, and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife and soulmate, Judith, on June 18, 2016, his sister, Marylou, in 2015, and both parents. A Celebration of Life will be held Dec. 3, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 33322 Row River Rd., Cottage Grove.
