COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL September 7, 2016 3A Suspect in Brice Creek standoff arrested A A drawing of the landscaping of the new school showcases the extensive exterior work that is planned, includ- ing the realignment of Taylor Street, which currently narrows signifi cantly near what will become the school's parking lot. Parking will be located to the east of the school, with separate drop-off areas for cars and buses. Design of new school unveiled lans for a new building and complex to replace the aging Harrison Elemen- tary School building in Cot- tage Grove began long before voters approved a bond to construct the new school and tackle other projects in South Lane School District last May. At a community meeting held Thursday, Aug. 25, district offi cials and a few members of the general public got a chance to look at drawings of what the new school may look like. Mike Gorman of BLRB Architects, who has worked to develop plans for the new school for about a year and a half, also detailed some of the new building's technical aspects. Sheriff’s Offi ce received a re- port of a dispute at a home near Disston. Initial information indicated that a shot had been fi red in relation to the ongo- ing dispute between neighbors, a dispute that had brought the Sheriff’s Offi ce to the home one week prior. The Sheriff’s Offi ce Special Response team was called out to respond due to the nature of the call and the history with the involved parties. Upon arrival, the 25-year old Miller fl ed the area on foot. The Special Re- sponse Team searched the area with the assistance of a Spring- fi eld Police Department K-9 Unit but did not locate Miller. During that incident, Shelia Miller of Dorena was taken into custody for Hindering Prosecu- tion, Resisting Arrest and In- terfering with Police and was transported to the Lane County Jail. South Lane Superintendent Krista Parent said the District will have an in-depth discus- sion of what the school will be named in the near future. The District expects the school to be open in time for the 2018-19 school year. Gorman pointed out that the materials chosen to construct the school could change the appearance from that which is depicted here; the District also hopes that materials choices can help keep down the cost of the new school at The open timber frame design in this rendering of one a time of high construction of the school's hallways is meant to call to mind the costs. frames of the area's famed covered bridges. Delight moves down Main O ne of Cottage Grove’s Main Street businesses has moved, though it still calls Main Street home. Therese Nguyen, owner of Delight, which carries an eclec- tic mix of anime merchandise, toys, accessories and games, recently relocated from a store- front in the Cottage Grove Ho- tel building to the St. Vincent de Paul building at the corner of Sixth and Main streets, the former location of Victoriana Antiques. Nguyen said Delight will stick with its regular offerings but now also offers secondhand clothing on consignment for adults and young adults. “We will continue to host Pokemon, Magic the Gather- ing, Yu-Gi-Oh, D&D, and game club because we love our gam- ing community and having a place for people young at heart to get together, make friends and play face-to-face,” Nguyen wrote via email. “With the in- creased space, our game area will be able to accommodate more players and be open and comfortable.” Nguyen said that many of the store’s regular customers of- fered to help out with the move. “It’s a lot of work for our little mom-and-pop shop and we feel blessed to have this community support from our ‘extended fam- ily,’” she wrote.
