COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL August 10, 2016 Cottage Grove Retrospective CLIP N' CARRY GARAGE SALES A look back at a Sentinel story from 60 years ago GARAGE SALE 1305 Dublin Lane (off of Gateway) Fri-Sat 8am-2pm Aug. 9, 1956 Local 4-H and FFA Youth ready for W.O.E As the Cottage Grove fair date nears, the youth of the community are polish- ing up their favorite cattle and select- ing top sheep, swine and other farm animals for blue-ribbon competition. The Western Oregon Exposition was originally a 4-H and FFA fair and al- though it has expanded a good deal since those days, it still is designed to attract the youth and give them an op- portunity to display their animals and other group projects. For one brother and sister team, en- tering fairs is nothing new. For years Eddie and Donna Hemenway have been collection fi rst place ribbons in local fairs. They plan to enter some of their best dair and beef cattle in the Ex- position, Aug. 23, 24 and 25. Eddie owns 10 cattle and will enter six or eight of them in the fair. He is 15 years old, a sophomore in high school and a member of FFA. His cattle are all registered Holstein. Eleven year old Donna, a 4-H mem- ber, will enter her three calves. Vice president of the Cottage Grove FFA chapter is Kirk Horn of Delight Valley. Sixteen year old Kirk plans to enter swine, sheep and dairy and beef cattle. His sheep are a part of the FFA chain. He plans to take 12 of them to the fair. Many other local FFA and 4-H members plan to enter animals in the fair. Some of them will sell their stock at an auction to be held Friday night of the Fair.
