COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL July 13, 2016 3B SPEEDWAY CONTINUED FROM PG 1B drop of the white fl ag, Hirst still possessed the coveted posi- tion. Both drivers would battle it out in lapped traffi c on the fi - nal circuit. Hirst had the advantage go- ing into turns three and four, but coming out of the fi nal bend, Crockett managed to thread the needle underneath Hirst and edge him out for the victory. It marked the second consecutive win in the 2016 Speedweek for Crockett, the 21st Speedweek triumph of his career, and his seventh Speedweek triumph at CGS. Kyle Hirst, driving for Scott and Jason Finley, was second followed by Visalia, Califronia driver Steven Tiner. Complet- ing the top fi ve fi nishing order included Cory Eliason, also from Visalia, in fourth while fi fth went to Trey Starks of Puy- allup, Washington in the Doug and Kathy Rutz entry. With so many cars, the fi eld was split into two groups for time trials. Kyle Hirst and Rog- er Crockett were the fastest cars in their respective groups. Heat race winners were Robbie Price of Cobble Hill, British Colum- bia, Steven Tiner, Eugene’s Kyle Miller and Jason Solwold of Burlington, Washington. Miller was driving for car owner Kady Adelman while Solwold was in the familiar Mike Anderson ma- chine. Crockett would earn the pole after capturing the win in the trophy dash. Raquel Ivie of Eu- gene would win the evening’s B Main. With the 360 Sprints in town for Speedweek Northwest, the famed quarter-mile clay oval also hosted IMCA Modifi eds and Street Stocks. Both classes showed very good car counts. In the IMCA Modifi ed fea- ture, Cottage Grove’s Tyler Smith was in front on the fi rst lap. Smith was then overtaken on the second circuit by Albany native Craig Hanson. Hanson led for much of the race but was passed late on lap 20. Jesse Williamson, of Eugene, was the man to make the move and held on to win his second race of the season at CGS. Corbett’s Collen Winebarger was second, followed by Craig Hanson. John Campos of Keiz- er placed fourth while Coos Bay SOUTH VALLEY ATHLETICS SUMMER CAMPS youngster Preston Luckman fi n- ished fi fth. Justin Austin of Pleasant Hill (driving for Art Hiatt), along with Springfi eld’s Jake Mayden and Craig Hanson, were the heat race winners. Collen Winebarg- er was victorious in the Dot’s Trophy Shop Trophy Dash while the B Main was won by Albany chauffeur Matthew Drager. The Street Stocks ended up having a good race as well. Eugene’s Chris Sine showed the way early until he was passed on the sixth lap by Kevin William- son. Williamson, of Coburg and the youngest of three William- son brothers, was briefl y chal- lenged during the main event, but he stayed in front to win his second race of the year at “The Grove”. Chris Sine was the runner-up followed by his wife April Sine. The top fi ve was completed by Jefferson’s Rick Chambers in fourth and Creswell driver Gar- rett Barth. Chris Sine was fast time of the night as well as the winner of the Dot’s Trophy Shop Trophy Dash. Heat winners were Sine and Andrew Langan of Jasper.
