8A COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL July 6, 2016 CHAMBER NEWSLETTER Our Mission: h e Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce is organized to promote the economy and business environment of the Cottage Grove area so its citizens and businesses will prosper. 2016 Chamber Goals • Increase membership by 25/year • Increase networking opportunities by one/ month • Increase advertising ef orts outside Cottage Grove • Organize and be viewed as a business conduit and resource for businesses • Improve communication about legislative issues af ecting business DIRECTOR’S NOTE Welcome to the busiest month of the year in Cottage Grove. In June, we’ve already seen the i rst two Concerts in the Park, h e Oregon Gran Fondo bicycle race, two high school graduations, a carnival, Art Walk, Wings & Wheels at the airport and the People’s Pick Music Showcase. In the next few weeks we’ll have the Cottage Grove Rodeo, Bohemia Mining Days, the Eugene Symphony, a Globe Swit Fly-in, KNND’s Rock, Roll N’ Rumble Car Show, h e Main Street Chili Cook-Of , the Rolf Prima Tri at the Grove, Relay for Life, Art Walk and more free concerts in Bohemia Park. It’s hard to believe all these things are happening just in the month of July! In the business scene, things are fairly bumpy but still positive overall. Many businesses are reporting an extremely slow start to the year with intermittent surges of busy times and things are getting better as we head into the summer months. h e good news overall is that even though things are moving very slowly, they seem to be improving rather than declining or remaining completely l at. Locally, we at the Chamber have been monitoring and advocating for several projects that would help our economy. h e Village Green will have likely been sold by the time you read this article. We hope to work with the new owners to not only keep the Village Green as an important asset in the community’s tourism business, but we also hope to support any ef orts to make upgrades and improvements that will attract more visitors, conferences and events to the community which benei t our economy. Also in July, we expect more news about the possible occupation of the old “Kwikee building.” h e City, Chamber, and several other entities have been working to pave the road for a buyer that will bring new, family wage jobs and industry to the area. We’ve encountered some serious obstacles along the way but if our ef orts prove to be successful, there will be some really great news to report in the near future. July Concerts in the Park!
