The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife sponsors the event, which includes events at several area waterways, the fi rst full weekend each June. An avid fi sherman, Cook said he's lobbying to have a deck below Dorena dam rebuilt to aid fi shing access there; a deck previously located below the dam washed away several years ago. project recently devel- oped by a Cottage-Grove based non-profi t aims to help organize, schedule, fi nance, and promote cultural arts perfor- mances and related classes by way of crowd funding. A press release from Music Money, a project of Another Way Enter- prises (AWE), said the effort works to promote activities that “strengthen and expand interac- tion among the diverse cultures in our town through music, dance, theater, as well as associ- ated visual art forms.” Through Music Money, dona- tions are solicited from commu- nity members for performances, classes and related events with the support of small donations or grants, with priority given to cultural arts. Music Money aims to work with other non- profi ts and anyone wanting to promote diverse and frequent musical performances. Performance selections are made by a local committee drawn from the Cottage Grove Music Association, (a high school based organization,) An- other Way Enterprises, Music Money and other local nonprof- its/residents. The group seeks to develop public-private coopera- tive relationships to promote the program and solicit donations. “Through use of networking and social media we hope to in- volve the entire community in making it easy to support “The Arts“ locally,” according to the release. The initial goals for the group in 2016 include involving high- school students in all aspects of the program (promotion and music selection), raising seed money, scheduling and imple- menting a launch event to intro- duce the program to the public and scheduling and carrying out three performances or classes celebrating diverse cultures. Those interested in contribut- ing to Music Money may make checks payable to A.W.E., P. O. Box 853 in Cottage Grove, writ- ing Music Money in the memo line of their check or locate the group on Facebook and donate via PayPal. $ PUUBHF ( SPWF 4 FOUJOFM Our Community Newspaper since 1889 Subscribe and $AVE Events planned for free fi shing weekend F ree Fishing Weekend in Oregon is June 4-5, and many events are planned around the state to help families make the most of this opportunity. Free Fishing Weekend is a great opportunity for families to get out and enjoy a day or two of fi shing,” said Rick Hargrave, administrator of ODFW’s Information & Education Division. “Lakes and ponds are fully stocked, a number of rivers are open, and don’t forget about the coast for crabbing and clamming.” As in years past, ODFW is teaming up with the Oregon State Parks Department to inspire people to explore Oregon’s parks and outdoors by waiving fees and offering such activities as fi shing events, nature walks, and special- ized outdoor-related workshops. Several state parks will be hosting ODFW Free Fish- ing Weekend fi shing events and waiving park admission and camping fees on “State Parks Day” Saturday, June 4. The following scheduled Free Fishing Weekend events will take place on Saturday, June 4, unless otherwise noted.
