2B COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL May 25, 2016 GIRLS' TRACK CONTINUED FROM PG 1B 200-meter races, fi nishing ninth, just outside of qualifying for the fi nals. However, she did make it into the fi nals for the 400-meter run, where she took seventh place with a time of 61.20 seconds. Despite not mak- ing the fi nals for two out of her three individual events, Albre- cht shows an immense amount of promise. She has run person- al bests for all of her events this season and qualifi ed for state in all of her events as well. “She’s an extremely tough young lady, and we’re excited to see how this year sets her up for even more success next year,” Knutson said. Hudson Weybright competed in the 3000-meter race, where she fi nished 13th with a time of 11:24.83. The junior shows potential to improve her time and step up in the long distance races when Wright is gone. Four out of the fi ve athletes competing were on the 4x400- meter relay team. Wright, Al- brecht, Weybright and Melissa Thielman fi nished the event in 4:17.17, taking 11th place. On the fi eld was Keara Mur- phy, the only fi eld athlete for the girls this year. Murphy placed ninth in the high jump with a height of four feet, 10 inches. It was an overall very success- ful season according to Knut- son. Both boys and girls teams exceeded his expectations. “Even better, it was a group of student athletes that represented our program, school and com- munity in a positive way every- where we went,” he added. BOYS' TRACK CONTINUED FROM PG 1B sprinter, he still made it to the fi nals and fi nished in eighth place with a time of 11.51 sec- onds. In the fi eld events, Brad Geisler led the way with the highest fi nish of fourth place in the discus event. After fi nish- ing 10th in the shot put, Geisler stepped up in the discus and threw a distance of 138 feet, nine inches for his fourth-place spot. His teammate, Seth Green, fi nished 11th with a distance of 122 feet, six inches. Jayden Tucker and Tucker Porter both made it to the fi nals in the long jump and triple jump respectively. Tucker, the senior, secured sixth place with a jump, of 20 feet, nine inches on Sat- urday, while Porter, the junior, also took sixth place but in the triple jump. His fl ight of 41 feet, 11.75 inches fell just shy of Eli- jah Castro from Hidden Valley. “Brad, Tucker and Jayden all stepped up to pick up important points,” Knutson said. Konrad Raum’s efforts did not go unnoticed. The freshman didn’t place in the top eight but fi nished 12th in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:32.95, the second-fastest freshman time. The boys also competed in the 4x100-meter relay, which included Howard, Tharpe, Jacob Woods and Brynden Howell. The four boys fi nished in fi fth in 43.79 seconds, just shy of their school record set at districts. The boys’ performances put them in fi fth place by just one point, but it is still the best fi nish since the 1977 boys’ team. “The boys were resilient and fought hard in a two-day meet that is a physical, mental and emotional grind against the best competition in the state,” Knut- son added.
