GIVING BACK - COTTAGE GROVE AREA NON-PROFITS - MARCH 23, 2016 - 15 ROTARY AT WORK IN COTTAGE GROVE LOCAL ROTARY ACTIVITIES The Rotary Club is a valuable asset to our community. Among the many projects and special events Rotary sponsors or organizes are: • CYCLE THE LAKES – (Main Rotary fundraiser) 32 mile, 42 mile, 67 mile, 77 mile, or 102 mile ride, your choice. 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Bohemia Park • ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY – For 32 years, we have photographed an average of 250 children with Santa and Mrs. Claus. 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Bohemia School • COINER PARK PLAYGROUND AND PICNIC SHELTER – working on phase 3-toddler expansion. • COTTAGE GROVE HIGH SCHOOL – Your local Rotary Club believes in investing in the youth of our community. Scholarship money is a major contribution by Rotary. Interact is a Rotary sponsored service club for youth ages 14-18. The Interact Club at Cottage Grove High School is one of more than 11,000 clubs worldwide. They are self-governing and self- supporting. The global Interact youth network is dedicated to community and international service. Our amazing Interact club members have collaborated with other school clubs to provide volunteers at many school and community events. They also conducted several fundraisers for international projects. RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy) is a weeklong youth education leadership academy for sophomores only. In 2015, eight outstanding Cottage Grove students graduated from the academy and felt they had learned more self-discipline, better self- expression, the willingness and self-confi dence to express themselves to their peers, and participate as leaders in educational and social activities, as well as community service. INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS Our international focus is on clean water and sanitation projects in develop libraries in regions of Thailand and energy effi cient stoves Uganda and literacy and dialysis projects in Thailand. Recently, our and agricultural support in rural Central America. club has taken lead with other Rotary clubs to provide books and IN ADDITION, ROTARY CLUB OF COTTAGE GROVE SUPPORTS THE FOLLOWING LOCAL PROJECTS, ACTIVITIES, AND ORGANIZATIONS: South Lane Children’s Dental Clinic, Dental Kit Distribution, Bicycling Safety Program, CGHS Literacy Project, Annual scholarships to High School students, Free Dictionary to all third graders, Community Sharing food boxes, Car seat clinic, Family Relief Nursery, Student Exchange Programs.
