OSHA courtesy inspection On Tuesday and Wednes- day of last week, Oregon Oc- cupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) per- formed a courtesy inspection of the City Shop, Middlefi eld Golf Course Maintenance and Pro Shops, Wastewater Treatment Plant, City Hall, Community Center Therapy Pool and Row River Water Treatment Plant. The City said its staff requested the courtesy inspection to help identify and address potential OSHA violations before they become an enforcement issue. This was a health and safety as- sessment focused on personal protective equipment, noise and environmental exposures, ergo- nomics, proper chemical label- ing, storage and identifi cation and proper record keeping. The two-day inspection also served as a safety training opportunity for the various supervisors and staff. No major safety lapses were identifi ed. However, there were numerous small corrective actions and improvements that were identifi ed at each of the in- spected facilities. The City will receive a summary report from the OSHA Inspector detailing the recommended corrective ac- tions. e v i t o m o Aut s e i t l a i c e Sp BY LIL THOMPSON For the Sentinel A very happy Thanksgiving to everyone tomorrow. Drive safely as you travel to family and friends and on all your weekend shopping. School is out until Monday, when all ac- tivities and classes resume. Basketball and wrestling are underway. Game schedules may be found on the district website and in the “Buzz.” The middle school boy’s games are now at the high school at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, Nov. 28, Crow Middle/High School wrestling will be at home starting at 11 a.m. Last week, two master planning sessions for upgrades and safety measures were held, one in Lorane at the Grange and one at Applegate Elementary. The architects had great presen- tations for both schools and questionnaires to fi ll out. Public input is needed, and those inter- ested can call the district offi ce with any ques- tions or for more information. It is time to think about those families less fortunate in the Lorane and Crow areas. Box- es are up in the organizations in Lorane for the donation of non-perishables. There will be An- gel Trees at Crow High School and the Lorane Family Store after Thanksgiving. Those who would like to help or know someone who could use some extra help during the holidays can contact Holiday Helpers c/o Applegate El- ementary by Friday, Dec. 4 or Marissa Cooper for names on the Angel Trees. Crow High seniors are selling wreaths us- ing the freshest greens. Orders must be in by Nov. 30 and will be able for pick-up on Sun- day, Dec. 7. One is 22-24 inches for $20, and the other a little larger at 26-28 inches for $35. Enjoy your wreath while helping the senior class with this fundraiser. Be sure to mark calendars for the Lorane Grange Christmas dinner on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 1:30 p.m. Turkey, gravy, ham and potatoes are furnished by the Grange; everything else is potluck. The community is invited. Again, a Happy Thanksgiving to all. Enjoy your day as you count your many blessings. Selections from the City of Cottage Grove's Friday Update are interested in participating Classic fi lm in OBOB are welcome to join the library practices. Harrison festival On Monday, Nov 30 the Li- brary will host a free screen- ing of the classic fi lm “Mister Roberts” starring Henry Fonda, James Cagney, William Powell and Jack Lemon. “Mister Rob- erts” has moments of unforget- table hilarity, but the comedy is tempered by sadness. The screening will include popcorn and beverage. Oregon Battle of the Books The Cottage Grove Public Li- brary will be coaching a third to fi fth-grade Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) team. OBOB is a statewide voluntary reading program and competition that is sponsored by the Oregon As- sociation of School Libraries. OBOB teams are organized by the school district to represent schools within the district. Cur- rently the team representing Harrison School and surround- ing area is practicing at the Li- brary. Any other third to fi fth- grade aged children that live in the Harrison School area and team meetings will be held at the library on the fi rst and third Saturdays of the month from 3:30-4:30 p.m. The regional competition will be in early March, 2016. Other schools that have registered teams to com- pete in OBOB this year are Bohemia and Latham, so home schooled children that live in the area around those schools, should contact the schools for practice times and locations. Sponsor a state book In December the Cottage Grove Public Library will be having a fundraising drive to replace its children’s state book collection, which it said is out- dated and worn out. For a $20 donation, interested donors can choose which state they would like to sponsor. The Library will purchase the book and add a gift plate to the inside cover thank- ing the individual or family for their donation. All donations are tax deductible.
