This year, the OSAA has implemented new rules regard- ing defensive fouls. Typically, it has been accepted that minor contact via hands of a defensive player is legal. However, the OSAA has adjusted the rules to exclude any contact on an offensive player. For example, should an offensive player turn their back towards a defensive player, a defender cannot place their hands or arm on the play- er's back or it will result in a foul. Pollard isn’t too concerned about the rule changes, and in fact says it might work to the Lions' advantage based on their style of play. “We like to dribble-attack and drive offensively,” he said, which would increase the chances of BOWL his players being able to draw fouls offensively. Pollard con- tinued to say that it shouldn’t be diffi cult for his team to adjust to the new rules and that these “ticky tacky” changes shouldn’t affect the fl ow of their game. “It’s not that we try to play with a whole lot of contact. Those are the rules and it shouldn’t force us to play much differently.” The boys’ basketball team will kick off its season on Dec. 4 at Creswell. Last week, the league fi nished its fi rst round in which the Brad’s Chevy and GMC team took fi rst place with 50 wins and 20 losses. The team consists of Stanton Newlan, Merv Kwandt, Errol Miller, Ann Steeprow and Alli Miller. Statistics from that week show just how much of a team game bowling can be. While Brad’s Chevy and GMC took fi rst place in round one, no members of the team were seen in the high game or high series stats. That week, it was Marvin Browning of Swearengin De- signs who bowled a high game of 247, along with Barry Re- inoehl of Taylor’s Towing with 244. For women, it was Meagan McNary of Jerry Brown Co. and Natalie Clark of Plus Two with the high games of 215 and 212 respectively. Joe Simmons and Barry Reinoehl took the men’s high series with 669 each, and Natalie Clark took the women’s high series with 603. This past Wednesday, how- ever, showed that the tides are changing. Kelly Trailer Repair, which features Georgia and Ron Robinson, Anjee and Tom Nee- ley and Dave Miller, topped the charts with seven wins and zero losses, while Brad’s Chevy and GMC dropped to a rank of No. 7 out of 12 with three wins and four losses. There’s a three-way tie for second place between Taylor’s Towing, Swearengin Designs and Quintuple Trouble, all of which have fi ve wins and two losses. This time it was Butch Cardoza who took the men’s high game with 247, but was one-upped by his daugh- ter, Natalie Clark, who took the women’s high game with 254. Cardoza and Clark took their high series as well, with 672 and 601 respectively. The Cottage Mixers league is only one of seven leagues host- ed at the Cottage Bowl. Other leagues include the 5 O’Clock Shadows, Meri Rollers, Dy- namic Trios, Ball and Chain, the City League and the Scratch League.
