Film Screening – ‘Shepherds of Helmand’ The Springfi eld Museum an- nounces a special Veterans Day presentation on Wednes- day, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. of the documentary fi lm “Shepherds of Helmand,” an amazing look into the war in Afghanistan as fought by the Oregon National Guard. In 2008, a group of 17 soldiers from the Oregon National Guard volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan to train a battalion of the Afghan National Army. Their mission was to conduct counter-narcotics patrols in the deadly Helmand Province, a region notorious not only for its opium production but as a Taliban stronghold. "Shepherds of Helmand" is the story of this group, one of the most decorated units in National Guard history. After the fi lm, the fi lm’s director and a panel of soldiers from the unit depicted in the fi lm will take part in a Q&A session and discussion. Admission is free, but a $10 suggested donation is appreci- ated. Proceeds support the South Willamette Valley Honor Flight. No matter the branch of service, no matter the era, no matter who we are, or where we live; we stand proudly together. We are Oregon veterans.
